Do dogs go to heaven?

Well, I just found out yesterday that my puppy (he's 8 but I call all dogs puppies) Samson has cancer. A few days ago he was chasing rabbits around the yard and now he'll probably be gone in the next few weeks. Since the day we found him, he's been like our first child. My wife and I had been trying for 4 years to have a baby, she was getting a bit depressed so I decided to bring something home for her to love and he was the perfect choice. One month later we were happy to learn that she had become pregnant and we prepared him for the new addition in the months to come. From the day my daughter came home she and Samson were best friends, he would bring her the toys she wanted and protect her from everything. He's never had a mean bone in his body, everybody loves him from the neighbors to the mailman, UPS Driver, FED-X, etc. People would bring family members who have been afraid of dogs their whole lives to meet him and after a few meetings they would be comfortable around him. At 85-100lbs he thinks he is the worlds biggest lap dog. He's always been the most behaved dog as well. He never takes anything that isn't his, from toys to food. I don't even worry about closing the front gate over the driveway since he will not leave the yard unless we tell him it's OK. I needed to post this so he's never ever forgotten. I'm really, really going to miss my buddy.

Ryz, I am so sorry to hear this. As the proud owner of 4 dogs, I can tell you that yes, they do go to heaven.

That sucks. I had to do a similar thing a few years ago with my family's first dog. He was such a great dog. Cancer took him away too. You just have to remember the good times and the funny things he did.

Re: Do dogs go to heaven?

It breaks my heart to read something to sad especially about a being you truly care about.
Although he may leave you soon, you will always have those good memories of him and be certain that you really did have a "good dog."

Is there nothing the vets can do for him?

Re: Do dogs go to heaven?

They can do Chemo but it doesn't guarantee anything. If the Chemo were to take it would extend his life by a year maximum. Unfortunately the cost, around 7-10,000, is more than we can deal with at this time. We brought him home and are spoiling the hell outta him.

Re: Do dogs go to heaven?

Just make him comfortable and love him a lot in his last few weeks/months... that's all any dog can ask for of loving parents.
