another job question lol... (union workers)

ok so i am asking a question in regards to my g/f... its kinda long but i want to put in a much detail as i can...

ok she has worked at Albertsons for 6 years now, her last position was working in the deli section, there was then an opening as the coffee bar manager, and she thought what the hell i will apply.. Well she got the job and they trained her how to make the coffee on the first day and everything was fine.. Every time she wrote the weekly schedules she would have them under the amount of hours alloted to her.. Wrote orders, kept inventory ect.. She basically ran the place flawless without any problems, yet she was never given any training on being management material or how to do ANYTHING other than make the coffee... She worked this job for about 2 months then all of a sudden her boss calls her into the office and says sales are slipping its your fault you are in charge and I am sorry you are not cut out to be management material and she asked I have never received any training on how to even do any managing I have just kinda figured out things on my own (her boss would tell her she would get trained but then something always came up)... She asked if she was being fired and her boss said no that she was just going to be transfered to another department and to come in on Monday morning (this happened 2 Fridays ago).. She goes in that Monday morning prepared to find out her new job but come to find out her boss decided to change her own schedule so she had off until Wednesday.. So my g/f goes in Wednesday to talk to her boss about her new job and her boss is out of town until the next Monday for some kind of company training type thing.. So she goes into work yesterday expecting to find her boss, whats new her boss is on vacation for a week... All last week she was applying at tons of places looking for a new job but she has yet to get any leads on a job... She asked me what I think she should do and the first thing that came to mind is call your union they can fire you for not doing your job if you never received the training for the job and its not your fault sales are slow.. And she said that if she goes to the union all the managers at her store will hate her and start treating her like shit for "ratting" on the store...

Any thoughts.. She is looking for a new job currently but if something is salvageable at her old job as coffee bar manager she would take it because she was making $16/hr.. Any thoughts on the situation?? I am not exactly sure how unions work, could they be any help???

Go to the Union. Albertsons is shit.

I worked for them a couple of years at a chain market of theirs, Acme. The managers are bloated assholes that don't give a shit about anyone or anything. They only worry about their own ass and will do anything to make sure that they keep their cushy job. Albertsons goes through thousands of employees a year. At our local Acme we went through kids non-stop.

During the time I was there we had ONE, and only one nice manager but she was offered a better job directing the region. The union can and will help if you have a good case.

Albertsons makes me sick to my stomach.

I mean no hard feelings for what I post on this website. Anything I type/write/post/say on this forum is only that of general debate and discussion. I am not biased toward anyone or anything. I am neutral in everything I do on this website. Only those facts that are presented to me sway my thought process and siding of each discussion topic that I post about.

Re: another job question lol... (union workers)

isn't it sort of stupid to hold the manager of the coffee bar that is INSIDE the store responsible for the sales of the coffee bar? Your only customers are the people who come in the store and want coffee. I guess the only thing she could possible do better is have some sort of promotional deals. I dunno, Albertsons is crap and if she didn't care about it as much she probably could have pointed out that if the GM got more people into the store her sales would probably increase.

it couldn't be that they charge $4.50 for a latte.

anyway, if her union can help her then she take advantage of it. That's the whole point of being in a union. That and supporting the commies, but that's for another thread...

Welcome to the business world...

You are held responsible for sales figures that you, in your job function, could not possibly affect. It happens every day in almost every industry.

Yeah, I guess it depends on the business you work for and the people directly over you as well. I agree that it happens all the time, just pointing out how stupid it is.
