Postpartum Phatty!

Morning guys. Long time no talk to! For those of you who don't know, I had a baby boy 9 weeks ago!!!

Anyhew.... I CAN'T SEEM TO LOSE THE WEIGHT! I've adopted a healthy eating habit and I work out a minimum of 4 times a week. Cardio and weight lifting. I've been at it for over a month & I've lost a whopping 3 lbs! I'm consuming about 1500 to 1700 calories a day and drink nothing but water, with an occasional diet soda. WTH!!!! Advice please!

Re: Postpartum Phatty!

Hey, congrats on the baby.

I would just stick with it... 1500 calories sounds kind of light but that's coming from a guys perspective.

Check out this calculator to find out how many calories a day you'd need to intake to maintain your weight. that is to say, if you did minimal physical activities how much would you have to eat to STAY at your current weight. Find that number then you want to eat less calories a day then that number. (Not A LOT less 200 - 400 calories difference a day should do the trick while not starving you.)

I'm not TOO familar with setting up weight loss diets/work outs with women so you may want to talk to a nutrionist/doctor before starting a new diet/workout plan.

Re: Postpartum Phatty!

I already did the calorie calculator thing. I've got a tiny frame so I was actually wondering if 1500 to 1700 calories was too much!!! I'm only 5 foot 1 !!! lol

Re: Postpartum Phatty!

I just wanted to say congrats on the new baby!!

My friend had the SAME problem as you... it took about 3 months for her to start losing the weight, even with diet and extreme exercise. Hang in there!

Edit Your baby is soooo freakin' cute.

Re: Postpartum Phatty!

At 5'1" that may be the case. I put 61" in and 120 lbs (not sure what you weight and won't ask either) and the RMR comes out to a little over 1300 calories so 1500-1700 would definitely be too much if you were trying to lose weight. The plus side is that if you are running/weight traning you should be able to burn fat while gaining muscle so you not be losing much weight but I'm sure you're burning off the fat.

Losing anywhere from 1 - 2 LBS a week is GOOD and means you're doing things properly.

Absolutely not

a 17 year old girl burns 1200 calories sitting on her ass all day long. By moving around and exercising you're burning way more than that 1500. I'm not sure when you're doing your exercises, but doing your cardio early in the morning, before you have anything other than water in your system, will burn body fat faster since the body has nowhere else to get it's energy.

Congrats on the little one That is one serious head of hair!

Re: Postpartum Phatty!

Thanks guys. His name is Kenneth Shawn & he's such a good baby! He sleeps throught the night, rarely cries & is healthy!!! He's a blessing.

I am 5 foot 1, and currently weigh 150 lbs!!!! My normal weight is around 130, but I want to get back down to 115, which is where I was when I was about 20 years old! lol (I'm 25 now) I used to wear a size 3!! Now i'm a size 8/9! It's depressing!
