Any Math Brainiacs Mazda Peoples? (Questions inside)

One of my younger friends that I sort of counsel is struggling with two math problems from school. I was wondering if anyone could look at this two problems and 1) come up with the answer 2) give a lil' explanation of how you figured it out. Thanks...

1) How many cubit centimeters of a 25% antibiotic solution should be added to 10 cubit centimeters of a 60% antibiotic solution in order to get a 30% antibiotic solution?

2) Karen invested some money at 9% annual simple interest and $250 more than that amount at 10% annual simple interest. If her total yearly interest was $101, how much interest at each at each rate?

There is a formula to use for number 2, but I can't remember it off the top of my head. It's been sooooooo long since I've done math like that (I miss the simple days, no calculus or anything haha)

1) 10(.6)+.25x=(10+x)(.3)
6+.25x=3+.3x
3=.05x
x=60 cubic centimeters

I think that's right, lemme think about the second one, and if you need more of an explanation for the first, just ask.

2) x*.09+(x+250)*.1=101 solve for x --> x*0.19 = 101-25 x = 76/0.19 the rest is too easy ...no time to do 1 this assume that theres no compounding interest

So, #1 is 60 cubic centimeters...

Kind of confused by ryuujin's answer... How much $$ for 9% ASI and how much $$ for 10% ASI?

Yup, that looks right. She put $400 in the 9% account, and $650 in the 10% account. The next question should be why would she invest money in two different accounts when one has a better interest rate.

Edit: The easy way to check it is 400(.09)+650(.1)=101.... it works out.
