~NAILED~ @ 70mph

hello folks...I got nailed today, clocked at 70mph in a 45 zone.
It was 1:35 am and no traffic on a back country road, I was on my way back from a friends place and sure enough...I came over the hill and buddy was sitting right there...he turned on his head lights and I knew what was up.
so I pulled over right away.

I've been driving for seven years and this is my first ticket ever. so I am sorta bummed.
tips / advice ?

I HAVE to appear in court and if lucky, they'll give me the defensive driving course. If not, I get the full effect of points and fines.
or another court date. The dude was nice enough to tell me that if he has to show up in court, he would speak for me because I had good demeanor.

but still, any advice will be helpful. should I hire a lawyer ?

Re: ~NAILED~ @ 70mph

no ticket??? you should just be able to pay the amount and not go to court for only 25 over. Hell I got one for about 30 over and only paid the ticket no court.... NC must be really different than other states.

I'd hire a ticket defense attorney and let him deal with it (try the ticket clinic). They may get it dismissed outright or in the worse case, you'll have to pay court costs or take a four hour class online. Yeah it'll cost some bucks, but you won't have the hassle of a court appearance and in the end you'll have no points and nothing on your record.

One more thing: get a radar detector. It's in situation like these one can really save you and pay for itself.

^ No the radar wouldn't have saved him in this case. Radar detectors detect the "splash" the gun is making, and if the gun isn't bouncing off of any metallic objects it won't set it off. So if there was no traffic and it was a back road I highly doubt there was "splash" and if so very minimal. So for this radar detectors aren't your life saver. I've had this happened to me before. Back road, no traffic, radar didn't go off till the cop pegged me.

You're probably mixing up laser with radar. Laser is more difficult, I agree but radar is easy to pickup. If the cop was using radar (which is very likely)any good detector would've pickup him up a ways away.

wow.... great advice ... someone comes in here asking for help/suggestions and this is what you have to offer?? ANd at least READ the post "7 yrs of driving" if he started @ 16 and my math serves me right, that makes 23

Go to court, be honest (wasn't paying attention, w/e) and you should be ok since its your first ticket. A friend of mine got a ticket of about the same "value" and the courthouse was so busy the DA (or whoever does it) asked for her side of the story outside the courtroom and then let her off with just paying court cost
