thats a decent rig. it mainly depends on what you want to use the computer for; games, email, music?

if he has the operating system software installed (legitimate version) i say go for it for basic email, internet use but its not a mega gaming machine.

Re: looking for a new computer....but not so good at it.help

you can do better, and I advise against buying a used computer. Here's a low end core 2 from Dell for $439 with a monitor:

And I'm sure you could get parts from new egg to build a better computer for around the same price.

not a good deal at all ... agp 8x is now outdated, they don't really make new agp vid cards anymore, well besides low end stuff. dell has much better deals, u can even get a 19in lcd w/ a decent computer for around ~400

yeah, a bit outdated....but not really all that bad (for most people, really depends what u wanna use it for). But the 2GB ram is nice. I would pay about $300 for it.

Re: looking for a new computer....but not so good at it.help

For $200, maybe, but that price is a little high. Like everyone else said, you can buy brand new for almost that or just buy the parts yourself and put one together. If you're gonna be playing games, definately not as the newest, fastest cards are all PCI-E and not agp. You can find some decent agp cards but they're usually more expensive and slower.

Prices on the low end Dells have gotten so cheap these days, especially with a monitor, that it doesn't make much sense to shop elsewhere. Now, if you need something a little faster with a little more memory, then you will want to shop around.
