Retarded....sigh...

History: I work 12 hour shifts. Days or nights. Depends on the rotation. (8am - 8pm, or 8pm - am)

I THOUGHT I was working night shifts starting monday. I was off Sat, Sun. And most of the previous week due to being sick.

To condition my body/mind to be on nights, I usually stay up progressively late on my days off leading to a night shift.
Last night I stayed up till 6am or so.

I got a call at 8am....."Will, you are supposed to be at work."

I am now sitting at work (9:10am) (got here at 8:50am), and I think I will only have about 2 hours of sleep within a 36 hour period.

Call me stupid and smack me a monkey....or something along those lines

Do you work in a NOC?

I hate working those shifts. I use to have to do that, PLUS be on call and come in on top of that. My body hated me for that.

If I fill half my tank with Shell V-Power gas and the other half with Chevron with Techron gas will I have V-TEC gas?

Yeah I hear you and feel your pain. This weekend was spent at a super long wake and funeral instead of at the East Coast Mazda Meet. This week I have to look forward to working 7:30 am - 1:30 pm and have classes from 2:00 pm - 9:30 pm everyday. Not to mention midterm exams are this week. >_>

Re: Retarded....sigh...

couple shifts on, couple off. It works out to the same amount of hours over a normal work week. 81.25 over two weeks I think.

However, I am already beat right now and I still have 9.5 hours to go.

Re: Retarded....sigh...

12 hour shifts are tough. But having to rotate between am and pm shifts seems absurd. Are you a low in senority, or does your employer like to fuck employees around?

Re: Retarded....sigh...

3 on, 3 off is the best shift ever. We used to do that with rotating shifts...I loved that.

Including my commute ( by train and car ) I work 14hr days, M-Fri. Been doing that for 20 or so years.
My train ride alone is 110 mins. double-ugh. Oh, did I mention the mandatory OT????

Re: Retarded....sigh...

My shifts go on a 4 week rotation. so for two weeks, I do days, then the next two weeks i do nights.

Week1 - Mon, Tues, Fri, Sat, Sun (DAYS)
Week2 - Wed, Thurs (DAYS)
Week3 - Mon, Tues, Fri, Sat, Sun (NIGHTS)
Week4 - Wed, Thurs (NIGHTS)
back to week 1 again.

SO usually there is 3 days to transition between days and nights and vice versa.
The only shitty part is thinking u are on nights, and then having to work days. By the end of this, I will have been awake for approx 36 hours....with 2 hours of sleep only. YAY......errr

4:33pm. I am off at 8pm. 3.5 hours. I think I can do it!
If I make it home without falling asleep at the wheel, it will be a miracle!
I might have to pull off to the side of the highway and take a nap.
