Receding Gum Line

Just wondering if anyone knows if receding gum lines can run in your family?? I know my mom had to have gum surgery twice when she was a teen because she had exposed roots and my dad has very high gum line as well.. I brush my teeth every day 2 times with a soft bristle toothbrush, hit up the mouthwash in the mornings, and i floss after every time i eat (i am addicted to those disposable flosser pick things).. My teeth have always been great never a cavity or anything.. But over the past year my gums line has really been reeding and on 2 teeth I am beginning to have highly sensitive/exposed roots.. This is something that is beginning to concern me because i finally got dental insurance and it says they will not cover previous problems OR I cant use it for anything other than cleanings for the first 18 months.. I dont know if all insurances are like that or just mine, my work finally started to cover dental october 1st with delta dental...

Re: Receding Gum Line

I've been starting to experience the same deal. My teeth are in pretty decent shape (only 1 cavity), but my gums have started to pull back on my upper jaw, leading to sensitivity and some intermittent aches. Funny thing is, it only happens on my my top teeth. I'm wondering if it has to do with the fact that I'm pretty sure I sleep with my mouth open most of the time, but I don't know for sure.

I never knew they ran in the family, but it doesn't surprise me either.
