best mid to low priced video card????

So, I just built a computer with on board video, amd 64 x2 (4600+), a gig of ram, etc

But now im looking to upgrade video. I want to spend under $150 and I will probably buy it from newegg. In your opinions, what is the best bang for my buck under that limit.

Ive heard new nvidia is more or less better than ati, but ive also heard the direct x 10 isnt really that important yet so go with a last gen ati card (because I was told last gen ati runs dx9 as well as the newer gen cards) that runs dx9 well... maybe an ati x1650 or x1950

I guess I would prefer 512 mem if possible with ddr3

for ATI (amd)

with this card for graphics rendering (static/ images) you will get better performance 512mb ddr3 helps

or

for nvidia

with the nvidia card (bfg has lifetime warranty) you will get faster gaming due to the 8000 gpu
for gaming the graphics processor makes more of a difference than the ram so spend more $$ on the chip

take the manuf. model # and cross search it in

I wouldn't worry too much about having 512 mb of video ram. You're better off spending that money on faster components. I recommend this card for the money...

Re: best mid to low priced video card????

The newest gen ati card is the 2900 series but the 2600 series is part of the same family of video processors
like ( nvidia's 7900GT vs 7600GT) or (ati's 1900xt vs 1650pro) still good cards just better price/performance!!

My advise is spend money where you will use and enjoy it the most in a pc

if you love movies and music spend more on Hard drive space

if you do work on your pc and large amounts of number or video crunching spend #$$ on Processing power

or in this case if you bennefit from high end graphics and enjoy HD gaming spend $$ on a high end graphics card me i have an 8800GTS w/ 320mb of ram and it fk'n kicks ass all over the court.

I have yet to run a program or game that my card cannot handle on max settings (Love Directx 10 the only good part about vista lol)

Re: best mid to low priced video card????

I understand where your comnig from, and wish I had 300 to drop (at least) on a card ... but I dont, everything else im happy with it, so its 150 towards a video card, I dont game really hardcore so im not worried about not having hte best, but the on board video def. wont cut it

Re: best mid to low priced video card????

My advice is to just drop $100 on a x1950gt. I bought one from newegg when they had them for $95, overclocks to past x1950 pro levels. Best bang for the buck. I wouldn't touch the 8600 series, nor the 2600 series
