mazda3 pwnable by 138hp toyota?

so my new friend has a 138hp stock toyota mr2 spyder
the little convertible

and he beat my friend badly with a v6 mustang with 190hp.

=O

weight difference mustve been nuts.

does that mean I will definately lose in my 160hp mazda3?
if so..... this is not good.
I lose to my friends 190hp mustang some days
and other days i win.
idk why. we are almost even sometimes then sometimes he eats me.

Re: mazda3 pwnable by 138hp toyota?

If:

the mustang wins more than your mazda3
and
the mr2 beats the mustang

I would say you will lose. But you could be lucky.

V6 stangs are not much quicker than a stock 3, but the MRS is definitely quicker being that it weighs like 2200 pounds and it gets the benefit of wicked MR launches.

Re: mazda3 pwnable by 138hp toyota?

Yeah the MR2 weighs in at about 2200lbs with 138hp. You Mazda 3 depending on model year and hatchback or sedan weighs in the range of 2760-2900lbs with (actually) 156hp. You might have a lot more torque, but that MR2 has impressive power to weight and better launches due to mid/rear setup.

As a note the Society of Automotive Engineers changed their testing standards for determining horsepower and this resulted in a slight drop in most vehicles advertised power production, which is why 07 and later mazda 3 shoes 148hp for the 2.0 and 156hp for the 2.3.

My guess is if the MR2 was ever recertified under the new SAE rules (and it won't be, its dead) it would likely be putting out between 132 and 136hp. Regardless, the MR2 has you on power to weight by a lot.

MR2 15.9lbs per hp
Mazda 3s 17.25hp to 18.1lbs per hp (using the old 160 number) depending on sedan or hatch and model year (The 07+ seems to have porked on an extra 100lbs somewhere).

The MR2 will make you cry momma. They are not fast they are ok. But faster than a MZ3.

If I fill half my tank with Shell V-Power gas and the other half with Chevron with Techron gas will I have V-TEC gas?

They are only faster while their engine works. Don't know what it is that Toyota did to that base 1.8L motor, but I have heard dozens of horror stories of modified and un-modified engines dying on people (mostly in the MR2, a number in the celica). In a few cases I have heard of people who went through 2 or 3 or 4 motors on their car without doing anything wrong to the engine.
