Wierd car noise when WOT

I just heard a car in the distance, about a block or two away, and it was being drag raced or something. Anyway, I heard the revvs climbing very fast and loud and then I hear "pop . pop . pop .........pop...pop" What the hell were those popping sounds. Happened again after shifting.

Probably backfiring due to improper fuel/air ratio.

Re: Wierd car noise when WOT

definitely just some backfire.

with my last exhaust, i could make it pop, not really backfire, between gearshifts all the time....all the time..as so it got annoying.

Went from a brand new 06 Silver Hatch to a Crispy 06 Hatch to a White 06 tC

They shut off the spark plug in a cylinder for one cycle so the fuel will go into the exhaust, where another spark plug ignites it, which keeps the turbo spinning between shifts.

Ahh, I see. Sounds like it could lead to a big "BOOM" though if not done correctly.

It can, but doesn't really go wrong. It is a big emissions no-no and it leads to huge amounts of wear and tear on the turbocharger.
