5 days and COUNTING !!!! how many of you are ex-smokers ?!?!?!

hey boyz/ladyz...

background:
i started smoking at about age 13. I have tried everything, from gum, to patches, to inhalers, etc... and NOTHING WORKED! I smoked about a pack and a half (30 cigs) a day, for about 8 years.

The first time i had my chest xrayed about 3-4 years ago, they found a lump  It ended up being just some extra fatty tissue buildup. Got my chest xrayed about 4-5 months ago and came back clean. What prompted me was horrible chest pains, to the point of passing/blacking out. they would last for about a week, then disappear for a year or two, then come back.

anywayz... the longest i ever stopped before this final time was 4 days on a bet about 4 years ago. to say the least, it didn't last.

I quit at 2:00pm last Wednesday 9/12/07. The first few days were torture, and i still find myself getting up every couple hours longing for that smoke. HOWEVER, with the support of my lovely fiance and friends, i think i can make it this time !!!!!

So, i would love to support and get support from fellow mz3 members that have kicked the habit or are currently in the midst (like myself) of kicking the habit!!!!

p.s. ---

For all those interested in what really help me quit.

I read (and i never read btw)

"The Easy Way To Stop Smoking" by Allen Carr

Im in the same boat as you Cash. I went to japan, smoked up a storm and since i came back i have decided to quit. Ive been smoking since 2001. Im doing the gum for about the billionth time, and im determined to quit and not use chew either. Dont do the cold turkey thing, bout day 3 youll be craving like a mofo, thats when you can use the gum, probably 4mg. ANyways, keep it up man, good luck and remember you wanna be around for your lady for more than just a couple years post marriage.

Cash, A couple words for you bro. I am going to try and stop this weekend again. I hate smoking with a passion. I get sick to my stomach everytime my son sees me light up.

I stopped smoking the herbals I know I can do this. The longest time without a cig was my week in jail (street racing). Lighted up right when I got out.

The chest pain could be anxiety or panic attacks if you feel like you are going to pass out and have chest pain those are 2 symptoms of anxiety. Trust me I know. If the doc says you are ok then trust him and roll with that. I am here for support bro, I could use it as well. All this money we spend on cigs can go on our cars.

I would hate to have to tally up how much I have spent on smoking in my life time. Enough to buy a car, maybe 2?

If I fill half my tank with Shell V-Power gas and the other half with Chevron with Techron gas will I have V-TEC gas?

Re: 5 days and COUNTING !!!! how many of you are ex-smokers ?!?!?!

been a smoker since about the same age . . . never smoked as much as you, i smoked about 1/2 pack a day. I never have found it too tough to quit, obviously its hard but i always seem to do a little better at quiting then my friends when they'd try.

i always go cold turkey but i do plan ahead and cut down to about 6 cigarettes a day and maybe even less if i can swing it and then cut them off completely.

Thats what always works for me, even though unfortunatly this summer i started smoking again, but thats only because i went on vaction for 3 weeks this summer and did a good amount of drinking and i can never disassociate smoking when drinking so now i find myself having to quit again. But i have quit in the past for way over 1 year and i know i can do it again.

4/5 days to go without smoking is pretty amazing since you smoked a lot imo, the magic number for me is 10 days, if i can make it 10 days then i know i kicked it.

stay strong, you'll get rid of it i'm sure, good luck
