am I in trouble?

Since the day I bought the 3 I stopped using my old car and cancelled the insurance. unfortunately I did not have a garage so I had to park it on the street where my house located. I was trying to sell the car since then but it was pretty hard to do so because the mileage was too high (176852). today I drove the 3 out and when I came back I found my car was hit and one of the side mirror was gone. looks like that driver was driving too close to my car so it knocked my side mirror off. I did not see anything around my car and I found a police note on the windshield. the note says

your vehicle was involved in a M.V.A please contact police office xxxx with insurance info to complete the accident report. the case number was below.

Of course that was not my fault at all because I was not in the car when the mirror was knocked off. but how am I gonna say to the police officer? just say i cancelled the insurance on the car because I don't use it anymore? will I be ticketed for keeping an uninsured car?

hmm idk
that could come back and bite you in the butt cause the next person to have it or whatever (if it keeps the same license plate with the car) may get harrassed for it.

Re: am I in trouble?

all i know is you can't just pick up a ticket and leave it their like it never happened lol, i tried this with a parking ticket and the cop was like sir you need to move your vehicle and im like why im already paying for the spot then he's like you want another so im like yea these tickets sure beat public parking lol.

anyway end of story i get another ticket both are 10$ each, and public parking is 10$ so i loose 10$ but get a hell of a parking space in the 15 minute loading zone lol

Re: am I in trouble?

what township was this in? I say get rid of the car, No one is going to use that plate number again so that wont be a problem. Have salvation army come and get it and use it as a tax write off or donate it which will also give a tax break. if not, sell for cheap. or for parts. even a scrap yard with all the aluminim(sp) and steel will get you something. WIth no legal back ground of my own, I say just ignore it, you can say you never got a note and you just found a messed up car and nothing you could do about it. Just play stupid when and if they come back to you....this is jersey so a cop prob hit the car so you're prob just giving them a break.
