Why Did People Stand In Long...

lines at midnight to buy the new Harry Potter book (and in most cases not receive anything additional to the event) when you were able to (like I did) walk into Wal-Mart today without standing in line and purchase the book for $18??

Things that make ya say...hmm.

Also, I saw 'Order of the Phoenix' last weekend and it was...blah. The cool, lil' blonde girl's role was the best stuff. This is definitely the case where the book is MUCH better than the movie. I hope the next movie is better...

Yeah, I don't get the Harry Potter craze. Or the "fantasy" genre in the slightest.

Re: Why Did People Stand In Long...

I'm usually not 'big' on sci-fi and fantasy-type stuff either, but this author is really good. Also, I'm a teacher - so my kids sort of got me into reading them.

The books are great, much better than the movies. I read a little here and there. From Book 4 until the last one - they are all 700-850 pages, so they are long. However, good stuff.

Anyone else buy it yet?

as with anything, there will always be hardcore fans. I mean I stood in line for like 2 hours when the new GTA (San Andreas) came out, waiting for the damn UPS guy.

Well... if you're a real fan, I presume you would appreciate the opportunity to connect with other fans, even if it means waiting in line. It's like a little convention of sorts for people that enjoy Harry Potter. You can't get that at WalMart.

Besides, it's WalMart. It's great for buying cereal and diapers, but I wouldn't feel like I bought a "real" book unless I went to a Barnes & Noble or similar :-P Just a perception, but some people enjoy the environment of a bookstore.

We had 1030 copies of it at the store where I work, and we still had about 500 left when we closed tonight. I've never seen anything move like that.
