Where in MIDDLE AMERICA should the nationwide meet take place?

This is a thread to get ideas as to where the nationwide mazda meet will take place. to have any hope of success this meet has to take place in MIDDLE AMERICA. (no vegas, dc etc..)

once we get ideas as to particular cities we could have it in a poll will be created to find the most popular of those cities.

Re: Where in MIDDLE AMERICA should the nationwide meet take place?

Do we wanna do big city:

Indianapolis
Chicago
St. Louis
Kansas City
Louisville
Cincinnati's
(not a comprehensive list, just pounding out some)

pros: nightlife, seeing a big city, probably more entertainment options in general, unique photo shoot opportunities. Higher profile, so biggest possibility of attracting new members. city cruise a possibility (although logistically difficult)
cons: finding easily accessible locations, out-of-towners finding their way around, dealing with traffic. greatest possibility of attracting ruffians and rapscallions. probably the most expensive in terms of food and lodging.

Smaller cities:
Champaign or the like. really, this would be more because a forum member lives there and could organize. in general, its the "halfway crooks" choice between large city and middle of the woods.

Pros: easier to navagate than a large city, while still most likely having enough resources to provide for the group. most likely enough countryside around for a country cruise. slightly more secluded, but still a possibility of drafting new members.
Cons: less general and diverse entertainment options. Less options in general for venue and local sponsors. people may not wanna drive 12+ hours to see a small town.

Rural/campground.
Honestly, i don't know these areas so well in the area. there are a few around central IL, and turkey run in Indiana is awesome, but i imagine getting whatever approval you need to assemble in these places may be ruff. i know biker groups do these kinds of things all the time though, so it must be possible.

Pros: relatively total seclusion to do whatever people want to do (within reason obviously). unique options such as hiking and boating. beautiful scenery. most likely very cool woodsy drives. hardly any chance of dealing with a negative element. most likely the cheapest option for food and lodging.
cons: We have to make our own fun. May garner more unwanted attention from law officials/rangers. very little local sponsorship to rely on. supply's will be harder to come by, so more food and beverage transportation.

i think before you really answer which type of place, you need to decide what you want this trip to be. if you want it to be more of a vacation in which you hang out with forum people, but also do your own thing, either the big city or the campsite are most likely for you. if you want this to be more of a convention, where you spend all of your time with the other forum folk, talking and doing mods, then i would think the smaller city would be the most conducive.

personally, im partial to the smaller city, but its mostly because i dont really like big cities. i mentioned champaign because thats where i am, so i could do footwork, but really, if people wanna go out and see the sites, then this is probably not the place. if people wanna make the event itself the main focus though, it could probably be arranged.
obviously champaign is far from an exhaustive list of options for small cities.

so.... theres my input...

Chicago or maybe KC would be a good idea. Even though I live in St. Louis, I'd vote against it. The cops here are not very friendly towards car groups.
