Things to Do in Australia?

I was torn between posting this in the Australian forum or the Lounge and since it isn't car related I post here. I will be visiting Australia in November (Sydney and Melborne) and was wondering what should I do? I already know of the tourist trap areas (opera house, etc) so what do the locals or ppl who have visited the "off the beaten path" places go to for fun and/or relaxation?

I didn't see any postings for any meets that far away but if there is one nearby when I'm there I would gladly hoof it there (I'm not planning on renting a car).

Re: Things to Do in Australia?

I was planning on heading to the gold coast for a few days to check out the surf. As for bringing water, the idiotic travel rules wont let me bring any liquid containers larger than 3oz, damn TSA.
