Re: Anti Helium - where can i get some sulfur hexafluoride

sulfur hexflouride is heavy...but not that heavy. 70 grams a mole, with 1 mole at atmospheric pressure being 22.4 liters. So those 227 grams would be 72.6 liters of gas.

Of course compressed it could take up a much smaller area. A 2 liter bottle of it weighing 227g for the gas inside would be at almost 520psi.

Of course finding a small container of it might be a problem. However if you could find something like a CO2 cartridge sized container that would probably be about 15-25 grams of SF6.

1) SF6 molar mass is ~140 g/mol
2) That quote was for a lecture bottle, typically about 10" tall, and maybe 3" in diameter. You'd be hard-pressed to find a smaller cylinder than that.

Re: Anti Helium - where can i get some sulfur hexafluoride

I had to look it up though. I didn't realize that SF6 formed diatomic (err, dimolecular I guess) bonds with each other.

Well halve that volume/pressure then, 36.3L to 227 grams or 252.1psi for a 2 liter container.

Re: Anti Helium - where can i get some sulfur hexafluoride

The mass of a mole is clearly between 54 to 99 grams, according to this site: http://www.ksr.ku.edu/libres/Mammals...nsas/mole.html

If you guys did your research properly, I wouldn't have to do it for you.

im going to see if my professor will let me synthesize this gas in my lab.

he said everyone gets to come up with one experiment for the lab of their own and im going to either make this gas or make laughing gas from ammonium nitrate. WOOT

Just so you know, using the N2O for personal inhallation is illegal. Just thought I would throw that one out there.
