Bring them home! Yes or No?

http://www.bringthemhomenow.org/

First i just want to say one thing:

I am not American, i am french like most you know, so i can understand that some of you will tell me to shut up and mind my own business.

I myself think they should come home.

i think the best support if to bring them back.

i have been part of a lot of those Support aid, where we send letters, cookies, pictures.

i hate war, i do not see anything good coming out of wars (only better weapons).

and i hate it that most of them dont know why they are their, actually none of them really know.

i have 2 friends, they were like the first guys i met in the USA when i got here.
both of them in the army, they left 1 year ago, were supposed to come back twice within one year.
they came back 8 weeks ago, just to find out that they had to go back 3 weeks after.

2 days later i got a letter from one of the mom telling me that they both died.

and i am so mad, and get mad i people on the street that say support the war, support the troops they must stay and fight.

I just wanted to know what are you feelings and views on this topic.

it would be great if we brought them back, but that would just make the situation worse IMO.

Who doesn't want them to come back home?
But if your question means that we pull stumps and all the troops come back home tomorrow, then, no, i don't want them home just yet.

Re: Bring them home! Yes or No?

i want them to come back home just like every other person living in this country...

unfortunately, we can't do that yet, for several reasons.
1). we don't want to have a repeat of WWII -- kill the German president and leave. (thus allowing Hitler to take over and fuck everything up...)
2). we want to establish a sense of democracy in the middle east, so that the U.S. will have more influence in that region.
3). we don't want to ruin the reputation that America has built-up over the years -- pulling out now would make our president - no, our country - look like complete morons!

there's more reasons than that, but that's just to name a few.
i want them to come back more than anything -- this fighting has to stop!

i've got family and friends over there, and more friends (and my cousin) are leaving for Iraq in November.
i'm not disagreeing -- i'm just saying that now isn't the time for us to leave; not yet...

Iraq is in no condition to effectively police and govern themselfs. Without the support from the troops, chaos would ensue. The current Iraqi government and police force would crumble creating a power void that would quickly be filled by Iran and Syria among others, as well as any and all competing religious factions. And finally, it would give any sort of misguided terror organization a great place to set up shop.
Then those Iraqis that survived through all of that would find a new found, and probably justified, resentment for the USA and other supporting nations for abandoning them much like what was done to the Afgans back in the late 70's and early 80's.

If this is not seen to the end, we would be condeming all those soldiers that died to a death that absolutely meant nothing.

Re: Bring them home! Yes or No?

Iraq will never be in a position to effectively police and govern themselves. The only reason they weren't killing eachother before we got there was because a brutal, ruthless dictator was killing them himself. And though I don't know the actual numbers (not sure anyone ever will) I do wonder how many civilians he was responsible for killing compared to the number that have been killed since our invasion... but I digress.

There are three distinctly different groups there that just do not get along. We can be there for centuries and they still won't have worked out their issues so more and more I'm inclined to leave and let them sort it out.

we created the current situation by removing the country's only real stabilizing force: Saddam. To pull out now virtually ensures that the violence and chaos will escalate. The vast majority of Iraqis want nothing to do with this shit, they just want to live their lives. They're unable to do that very well as it is, and if we leave then it will only become worse.

We shouldn't leave right away because we made the mess, so it's on us to do what we can to clean it up. If we simply pack our shit up and go home, no country will ever trust us again when we ask them to take a chance and tell them that they can depend on us for support.

I disagree. The majority of the country is stabilized, it's really only a few areas that are going crazy. Of course, those areas are really some of the most important and populated areas of the country, but it's not like the entire country is in chaos.

again, I disagree. They don't get along because they've never really had the chance to. Moderate Sunnis and Shiites are able to get along, and there is plenty of evidence of that. The Kurds seem to be able to get along with them as long as they feel safe up in the north, but there really isn't any problem of Kurdish violence in Iraq right now (Turkey would probably disagree, but screw them and their shitty greek-arab fusion cuisine). The violence in the country right now isn't being led by "sunnis" and "shiites", but by individuals trying to consolidate power for themselves or simply thwart the attempts of the US because....well, because we're the US and they really don't like us. There are certainly plenty of shiite vs sunni killings based solely upon revenge or a perceived injustice, but I have to wonder how many of those are really only occurring because of current situation where such violence is the norm. I mean, how many times have you wanted to beat the shit out of someone but didn't, because it's generally unacceptable by society and you'd likely get caught? How often would you have just done it if you figured that nobody would care and everyone else was doing it anyway?

haha ... I would think YOU of all people would see the benefit of war. If it weren't for war, you'd be speaking German right now.

I'm sorry that you lost 2 friends, but what you have to realize is that they made the choice to sign up. They knew what they were doing could get them killed or hurt and they did it anyway.

+1 I think the original question is a bit biased. The Question as stated is "Do you WANT them to come home?" Of course the answer to that is yes, who doesn't want our military boys back home where they belong? The question SHOULD be "Do they NEED to come home?" And the answer to that question is no, I agree with Oricle, bringing them home would cause more harm than good.
