The What's Your Ailment Thread

A thread to discuss you ailments or disorders. Kinda like a support/help group...or just interesting conversation.

I'm a Type 1 Diabetic. Had it since I was 4 and 24 now. The last 20yrs hasn't been peachy, but everything is in control and going good at the moment. Anyone else?

Re: The What's Your Ailment Thread

This thread isn't the ailment anymore.

It's that annoying "Useless Thread" starter above me that ails me now.

Re: The What's Your Ailment Thread

Pretty sure I have a burst disk in my lower back. The day I got back from my honeymoon I was laying in bed and went to roll over and got shooting pain in my back. I couldn't really get up or walk for a couple of days after that. Then for the next few months I had constant back pain (more with sitting) and I have shooting pain up my left leg (indication of a burst disk pressing on the sciatic nerve).

Its been getting better slowly, but it still bothers me a bit every once in awhile and I can't bend over and touch my toes as easily anymore (my left leg, the one with the pain bends whether I want it to or not if I bend far over to touch my toes).

It 'flared up' again over the weekend hurting a bunch and stuff, but it has been getting better again.

Usually when it is 'bad' taking a few Ibuprofin takes care of most of the pain and compared to a week or two after it originally happened my back is (other then this past weekend) 90% better. Doesn't really limit me from exercising or anything, I just have to be a little careful lifting things and I also need to get up and streach and walk around more frequently when sitting for a long period of time.

I still haven't bothered going to see a doctor about it because I figure.

1) if it is a burst disk the chance of recover on surgery VS naturally healing are both 95% after 1 year
2) if I did have surgery and the disk bursts again my chances of recover are MUCH lower, even with surgery they drop to like 30-40% after a year
3) I hate surgery

Sucks being 24 and having a bad back though (my Dad has a bad back and my grand father had a bad back, seeing a trend here)

Anxiety... I don't get it as bad as I used to though.

Other than that I'm pretty healthy as far as I know!

**not on this forum and not unless its in a for sale thread.

Re: The What's Your Ailment Thread

I have a brain malformation - called Chiari Malformation. Either my brain is too big for my skull or my skull is too small for my brain and it forces part of the brain down into the hole at the base of the skull where the spinal chord meets the brain stem. I had surgery 15 months ago. The surgery involves removing a portion of the skull to give the brain more room. Here are a few pictures showing the incision 1 week after surgery, an mri picture before the surgery was done, and an mri picture from after the surgery showing the changes.
