Run a red light...

Anyone here ever got a ticket for running a red light and being caught by those cameras mounted on the red light? Last night I think I might have gotten one. I was driving down a street I didn't know looking at my mapquest paper and when I looked up I saw a yellow light and went to go through it but as I did it turned red and I saw the flashes go off. I am trying to find out how much those tickets cost. I just got done selling something off my last car and was looking forward to using this money to buy a CAI. It happen in Queens, NY. Anyone?

Re: Run a red light...

depends on your state/county, im sure they are different for everyone. I got one, 3 days after I got the ticket red light cameras were deemed useless and not worth the money, so they turned them all off

Just my luck? It was like $50-100ish?

Damn that sucks. I am just pissed at myself since I drove an hour to sell a guy my hitch off my truck for $110 and now with the ticket, gas, and tolls, it might have cost me to actually sell it to him.

Easier thing would be to pay attention to your actual DRIVING and not run the red light... Doesnt cost you a penny....

Re: Run a red light...

I got one of those tickets, although I didn't even run the red light. I got a notice in the mail informing me that I owed $50 b/c they (Safe-light) had "caught me", and the notice included 3 GREAT pictures of me driving through the intersection with the light yellow. I contested it with my local PD, and won, then they (Safe-light) sent me another notice a month later saying that I had failed to pay them, and now owed them $100. I called the place back (I'm in NC, the place that runs the redlight cameras in Arizona), and they claimed that I clearly drove through a red light. I told them to fuck off that they were full of shit and I was innocent, and had the evidence to prove it, and that if they tried to come after me again, I would sue them for all the time I had wasted dealing with this crap. I called my local PD again and asked for a letter proving my innocence, just in case they try to come after me again, and boy do I hope they do, I wanna fuck them over nice and good.

Those places are a total racket. Make sure to ask to see the video clip (they have video and still photos, and you are entitled to a viewing of the video, thats how I knew for sure that I was not guilty), not just the photos, and remember, as long as your front tires cross the white line before the light turns red, you did NOT run the light. Do NOT trust them if they say the video shows you ran the light. They will try and lie and cheat you out of your money, those cameras are a total racket, and are all about making money, and nothing about making intersections safer. Don't let them take you unless they have 100% perfect evidence that you entered the intersection (crossed the white line) while the light was red. The Cary PD very clearly said I was innocent, yet some schmuck in Arizona ttried to tell me I was guilty, just so they could get their $100 out of me. Its a pain to deal with, but its the principle of it. INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY.

I plan on getting some of that photoblocker spray soon, just to avoid incidents like this in the future, they are liars and cheats, its not illegal, its just protecting yourself from people trying to steal your money.

Re: Run a red light...

Thanks ruby for the advice. I really caught the tail end of the yellow in my mind and I might have a chance that my tires were over the white line. This is my first ever violation. I guess now it's just a waiting game.

Re: Run a red light...

just don't admit to anything until you see the video, play lawyer-like, and ask to schedule a viewing of the video clip. If you ran it, you ran it, but be aware, that they set the timing of those things pretty inaccurately sometimes (like in my case), assuming that most people won't bother to fight it.
