Visiting NYC in April

A business associate and I are coming up to NYC for a meeting in April. By chance, the Red Sox are playing the Yankees and we got tickets for that evening. The meeting is in the morning and we should be done by noon. The game is at 7 (I think). We've never been to NYC or Yankee Stadium and we're staying just one night. Since we're done by noon, where do you suggest we go? We'd like to get a few drinks before and after the game. We're staying in Manhattan, a few blocks from Ground Zero.

Re: Visiting NYC in April

I'd suggest the metropolitan museum of art. That thing is nice (heck nicer then what we have in DC, then again our stuff in DC is second nicest in the US and also free).

Re: Visiting NYC in April

I'm a fan of the American Museum of Natural History (www.amnh.org) and their uber-planetarium.

All that stuff is uptown though so be ready to experience the subway or pay some cash for the taxi. Downtown becomes a ghost town after close of business.... even finding a restaurant can be a challenge depending where you are. If you just want to do sight seeing, you'll be fine staying downtown. Hop on the Staten Island Ferry (down on State Street) for a free ride past the Statue of Liberty, or check out the Sphere down in Battery Park.

I spent quite a bit of time in NYC back in the early '80's, so some of my info may be out dated.
Don't forget to visit Washington Square park in the Village, preferably @ night when the weirdos (mostly harmless musicians) come out.
I used to stay at a place on 95 St @ Broadway on the west side, and a few blocks down (walking distance) used to be a resturant called The Library. Good food, light fare and not too overpriced, as most places are in the city. My ex, whom I was dating @ the time and I used to like to go there.
It may have been in April, I can't rightly remember, but the West Indies Festival on the upper west side was always fun too. Lots 'o' curried chicken dishes and Island music and parades w/island style costumes.
