Yeah, that's how they do it with the pears. I only know because I had a crazy Chemistry professor that had been all over Europe, and came across one of these bottles with a pear on the inside. He was fascinated by it, so he planted hundreds of pear trees on his land, and went out and got thousands of bottles. I believe he bribed students from his classes to come over and work for him, inserting all the baby pears into the bottles, and he would provide pizza, beer, and extra credit. He also had a couple of Russian immigrants working for him. And then he got into trouble for sexually harassing two female students in two different classes in the SAME semester. I heard his wife left him and then he killed himself. Completely off topic, but really sad. That's the story of the pears.
And I was gonna say chess for the first question... if you can call that a sport.
What did he intend to do with a thousand bottles with the pear?
What any other man with a thousand bottles containing pears would do.... sell them on ebay. He was kind of eccentric, thought that people would find them fascinating or want to give them as gifts. He also liked "pear shaped" women, as he put it. Enough to want to create a website devoted to them... pearfection.com I was curious/bored one day when he was rambling about his ideas during his class, so I went online just to see if someone had already taken that domain, and sure enough, it was taken. We told him the next day to check the web, and when he found someone had taken the domain, he went ballistic and started accusing us of stealing his idea and crushing his dreams. He went as far as having it traced to see where it came from... a student found out it was registered in the UK, I think, so he forgave us
