How many of you set the "E" Brake, even though you have automatic?

All my friends look at me like im retarded for setting it even though I drive an automatic. I do it only because god forbid something fudged up in the transmission, my car won't roll away and cause damage or kill anyone.

That is what the parking brake is for. The transmission isn't designed to hold the weight of the vehicle on say...a steep hill. The parking brake should be doing most of the work and god forbid that fails then the transmission will take the brunt of it. Plus if you check anywhere on the mazdausa.com site or in your manual you will see it called the "parking brake" not "emergency brake"...hence it describes its job.

Always on slopes (brake set first, then shift into park so the brake is holding the cars weight)
Never on flat

i don't drive any automatic anymore, but when i did, it was ALWAYS up.. felt better that it was holding the car up after the car was stopped..
