The Homeless

The other night, the gf and I were out and about, and we saw a homeless guy sleeping under the bridge. It's been really cold here in Dallas, and that night it was around 30 degrees. I was out that way again, and saw the same guy with a 'Homeless, Need Help' sign.

I felt bad, but only had bigger bills on me. Had I given him a couple of bucks, I don't know what he would've done with it. He could've bought food, he could've bought liquor. Had I bought him something to eat, he'd be "good" for a few hours, but he'd still be homeless, cold and evenutally hungry again.

How do your react when you see homeless people asking for money?

Re: The Homeless

There's TONS of homeless people where I work in downtown atlanta. You HAVE to ignore them. If you make eye contact with them they follow you around trying to hit you up for money. God forbid you say high to them. I tried being nice, I did, but they ended up ruining that for me.

Re: The Homeless

Haha, true story.

I was riding around in a rented convertible mustang in my town 2 years ago. So this one african-american male about 60 years of age, sees me at a red light with the top down. He was standing about 25 feet away on the curb and yelled to me, "HEY, you remember me? You gave me a lift a couple years ago to downtown." I said, "I DID?!?!?" "Yeah, can you give me a ride to the mall". The mall was only a mile down the road. I said "Nah man, I don't remember you, sorry." "Awww come on man give me a ride" "Nope sorry, don't trust strangers".

He just kept on walking. He kind of creeped me out. I hope I never have to see his ass again.

You're missing a few options:

"Yes I have lots of change you piece of shit, thanks for asking!"

"Do you take VISA?"

Re: The Homeless

Too many scam artists out there to tell the real homeless from the fakes. I just ignore 'em. Heck, I remember seeing the same group of "homeless" folks at an intersection with signs. They had a bicycle, and they would rotate every so often.

Same thing happened to my fiance. She was out with some friends form work for lunch. They saw a homeless guy on their way to lunch. One of the girl ordered double and they gave it to the guy on their way back to work. The guy throws it on the ground and screams, "What the f*ck am I supposed to do with this?!? I want money, b*tch!"

Had I been there, I would've maimed him.

Still, the people you see sleeping under the overpass at night in below freezing are really homeless... No one ever feels any compassion?

Re: The Homeless

I did not vote, because I really don't think there is a correct answer. Some of the homeless you see are in that situation thru no fault of their own....they are truly helpless for whatever reason, and therefore deserve our help. However, I truly believe that the vast majority of them need to take hold of their lives, get off their fat asses and get a job like the rest of us.
