Bilk anyone?

What is bilk? It sounds disgusting, but probably just as good as real thing. Anyone in Japan want to try this and let us know what you think of it?

Re: Bilk anyone?

Meh, you can make perfectly good beer wine, and many other alcoholic beverages from almost anything... why not milk?

I'd give 'er a whirl if I came across it... can't be any worse than the piss-water that half of america calls "beer"

Re: Bilk anyone?

There's actually nothing particuarly unique about that, except the quantity of milk in it. Many beers have some quantity of lactose or milk in it.

More to the point, fermented milk has been made for... as long as humans have been fermenting anything.

I wonder how this one tastes, inparticular.

Re: Bilk anyone?

Araka is fermented milk as applies to a hard alcoholic beverage.

Lactose and milk are not the same thing (lactose is the sugar in milk, but milk is composed of a lot more then that). Yes lactose is present in a lot of fermented beverages, but by no means the majority of them.

Never said they were the same, and never said they were a majority. Just said both are done.
