Lock Bumping

Has anyone posted about this yet?? News broadcast about tapping a key to open 90% of the locks used in homes.

News stories like this are such a Double-edged sword. The public needs to know about this, but now every would-be burgular knows about it too, thanks to the broadcast.

It's not a new trick. The best defense is good neighbors, a large dog, an alarm system and plenty of lighting.

...and from what the story says... more expensive locks can help as well. While it was news to me, I wasn't willing to believe that this was truly "news".

Not new at all. This will generally only work on house locks, and tends to work better on deadbolts than locked knobs (if you'll notice ALL the locks shown in the example were deadbolts). Since the bump key has to be cut to a specific number of tumblers your common burglar is probably going to go for 5 tumbler locks only and not even try higher quality 6 tumbler locks.

Totally useless on car keys, as they're double-sided. Does not apply to the Mazda3 at all (as previously mentioned).

Mazda3 you can hit the lower right of the door to take it off...

Now we can break into houses also!!
