Microsoft Vista

So yeah. I just went out and bought a laptop today. Came with Vista.

I'm not an extreme technofreak, but I know my way around pretty good. I made this to kind of compare Vista with other O/S's. I think the new Vista reminds me A LOT of Mac's, and their user interfaces. On the side of the desktop their's Googles News, scratchpad, photos, web clips, a to-do list, weather, Google search bar....All relatively small, but still cool looking.

The little bars where the title goes in individual windows are great. I love the new layout and look of Vista. They have an opaqueness to them, but it blurs whatever is behind the window. Real sharp looking.

Whoever Microsoft hired to do their new Screensaves, is awesome. There's some new ss that come with that are just trippy as all balls. I love em.

Anyways...anyone else got Vista? What do you think of it?

Re: Microsoft Vista

I wouldn't get Vista unless it came with a new computer like you did. They say that there really isn't that much in it to just do the upgrade, and if you don't have a powerful enough system to run it, it will bog your current computer down. Best to just buy a new computer and have it bundled with the software package. Glad you like it. It did look pretty nice when I saw some shots on the news the other day.

Re: Microsoft Vista

I bought a new PC back in December that is visa ready. HP is sending me the upgrade to vista as part of the deal I got. I am a bit reluctant to do the upgrade after all the horror stories I have heard. (check the funny video section for the Vista install video I posted)

that's chris's vid

LOLz

i'm glad i switched to OSX last semester, i have had NO problems and no restarts necessary and it runs so smooth (that's partly the nice machine i'm running it on) and it looks even better than vista IMO.

Re: Microsoft Vista

And a word of caution to those who are considering an upgrade to Vista, don't! Let the early adopters find and report the bugs.

2nd'd.... I don't want to sound like a FanBoy... but Mac's are just easier. I switched about a year ago and so has my family. Vista has the same old Windows BS that just frustrates regular users. Before I went to Mac I actually used Open Suse which is a great flavour of Linux, but it takes some work. Mac OSX is the perfect blend of Unix kernel with usability.

A few things I have learned about Vista, the DRM (which is like copyright protection) is over done. It is tied to all of your drivers which must be digitally signed. As an example, if your sound card driver isn't signed, copy protected audio won't play.

Additionally it is a huge resource pig and despite what MS says is already being exploited. The main exploit and the most humorous is the Speech Recognition bug which allows all files to be deleted remotely.

Early adoption is definitely not a good choice as was said earlier.
