Separation of church and state is just a fancy way of saying that the government will not endorse any particular religion. Personally, as someone with no religious affiliation, I don't find that phrase to be condoning of any religion, or religion in general. God, in an abstract sense, is a word that's used all the time by people without any religious meaning.

My only problem with it is that it gives atheists a bad name when some ultra-liberal jerk-off from california files a lawsuit against the government over petty crap like that. It doesn't mean anything in the context of our government (though some ultra-conservative jerk-offs might claim it does), so it doesn't bother me.

Though, when someone doesn't want to say the pledge of allegience because of "under god" they are seen as unamerican. It's both sides. The people with the most extreme beliefs always believe the other person is wrong. That's why idiots sue over under god, and why idiots sue or picket becuase it is happy holidays instead of Merry Christmas.

To me, Happy Hollidays is inclusive to everyone. If you wanna say merry christmas to me, I am not gonna fly off, if you wanna say happy chanukah that's fine too.

I also get irritated with the people who sue to have their religious symbols included on public property.

Without Christ there is no CHRISTmas.... So exactly what holidays are you celebrating?
Nothingness day? It's just as hard for me to understand how an atheist can celebrate Christmas as it is for you to understand why we don't say "happy holidays".

i think maudi3 got you wrong.

I agree with your first two paragraphs.

Ppl in america need to get a life and stop sueing over the words "Under God, or in God we Trust"

And if you dont like Merry Christmas, stop celebrating our holiday... dang, ppl dont think or what...

Merry Christmas is a Christian holiday, and if nonchristians wanna celebrate it. Put up with the name.

I dont like trees, i want arbor day to be called plant day, cause 'arbor' is racists to all plants......

what's wrong with tradition? people asking for some kind of sterile state are starting to irritate me. christmas and easter are as american as apple pie imo. if you don't like it, ignore it. i'l do the same for what ever you want to do if it doesn't affect me. what ever words are on the money doesn't affect my ability to earn or spend it. square wreaths would not offend me, nor would decorated cactus...

A rabbi in Portland sued because the city didn't put a lighted menorah in a display at the airport.

Back on topic, whats the issue with having something that is the 'foundation' of our country, when we don't respect the idea in the first place?
