Best iPod to Buy

halleluja hollaback john brown king of the burbs. ghetto revival.
ok. now thats outta the way.

i figure its about time for me to buy an mp3 player. i just wanted to get everyones opinion on what is the best version of an iPod to get.

i want the biggest size you can get 80gb? right?

i plan on just ebaying it, i dont really care if its brand new considering im just gonna carry it around at school and dont wanna drop 400$ on a ipod video to have it stolen or something.

btw i know nothing about iPods, so i'm not even aware if there's a difference in versions?

no. those suck. this is about ipods. my friend got a zuno. worthless. you can't even really transfer music, so that sucks. you get like "3 day trials" plus no one has a zune at my campus. if i have an iPod i can just hookup to anyones and transfer their music onto mine.

jflash i dont really want a new one. im not even concerned about it being new. i just want an iPod, i'm sick of burning CDs, and i want music to carry in my pocket.

nobody has an opinion on the best version etc to get? or is it all personal preference?

Re: Best iPod to Buy

sorry the link expired. they were refurbished ipods from apple. you can get a 2gig nano(500 songs) for $99.
they are going for more than that on ebay and you still get a warranty.

Re: Best iPod to Buy

If you want the largest, yeah the latest is the 5G (sometimes called 5.5G, after the last refresh) 80 GB iPod video.

Re: Best iPod to Buy

it depends how much music you have. i would recommend getting the smallest hard drive you could imagine yourself not filling up in the next couple years.

also depends how you use it. obviously, if you plan on carrying movies on it, go big. if you never want movies or games, and you only have like 4 gigs, get a nano.

i've got the 80 gig and love it. but ive got over 50 gigs of music, so i didnt have a choice.

also, dont leave it in your car in hot or cold, and go easy on it. get a case pretty much as soon as you get it, cause they break pretty easy and scratch if you breathe on them wrong. my old one only lasted 2 years, but i was hard on it. im hoping thos one lasts closer to 4

Re: Best iPod to Buy

+1 the first gen Zune blows. Hopefully they'll actually build something decent for gen two instead of rebadging and dumbing down a Toshiba 1089. I'm not a MAC fanboy by any stretch but iTunes and the iPod have been revised and honed to damn near perfection... the Zune needs a LOT of work to be on the same playing field.

As far as the iPod the 30gb video is only $250. Its extremely quick and easy putting music on and taking music off. My entire music collection is about 60gb, plus about another 25gb in audio books, and about 5gb in podcasts. But I generally don't keep more than about 10gb of music on it at a time. I'll load it all the way up for a road trip. Its nice to be able to switch between Music, Podcasts, Audio books etc. VERY nice for looonnggg drives!

Re: Best iPod to Buy

I've had a pre-video/pre-color display ipod for a couple of years now and no issues and the battery life is still great, I use it everyday for anywhere between 4-8hrs. It's the 20gig hard drive and currently I have about 6gig on it (my whole music collection) so I have lots of room to add on. My son has a 30 gig 2nd or 3rd generation (mines considered a 4th gen I guess) and it's still going strong also, although battery life is now down to about 3hrs. He leaves it in the car, hot and cold, (even though I tell him that he should be taking it out) so that doesn't seem to have an impact.

Get one that's sized to your music collection plus room to grow.

Re: Best iPod to Buy

i have a ton of music on my computer already and i generally buy 2 - 10 CDs a month. Sooooooo yeah. I'm gonna go with at least 40GB, if I get the video 80GB for sure.

Do the iPod videos have a video output?
