- The Future -

Have you ever thought about what the future will hold for the human species?

if anyone saw that show on the Discovery channel "2057".

the future looks to be frightening and exciting at the same time. you will have little or no privacy at all. your city will be "wired" 24/7 and the whole world will be linked via lasers by satilite. It is also said that your health insurance will be 1/3 or your salary.

Is mankind aiming itself at evolutionary existence or impending doom through the technological advances of the future?

What are your views/predictions of our inevitable future?

Yeah, I was flipping between that show and a few others, and from what I saw, I agree with ya 100%. IMO, technology will either become a saving grace of our species, or our ultimate destruction.

Re: - The Future -

Because of my views of the future, I'm glad I won't be bringing children into this world. The cost of living will continue to out-accelerate income, and the line between poor and rich will become ever thinner, eventually making America a 2-class nation - haves and have-nots. Natural resources will continue to be depleted until it's too costly or difficult to provide energy. Crime will continue to increase until you don't feel safe sitting in your own home without a gun in your hand...and sometimes that's even useless against the types of attacks that are becoming more common (like driving a truck through your living room wall and taking what they want). Lawlessness will take over as law enforcement is simply outnumbered by lawless citizens (which comes from living in poverty). Incurable diseases will continue to be on the rise, cancer killing more people than anything else - all stemming from our polluted environment, which we all know won't be getting any better. The earth can only tolerate so much before it becomes a toxic place to live, and it's well on its way. Our foreign policy eventually makes enemies of those we now call allies, and we will be perpetually at war with one or more foreign powers.

Hate to sound so bleak...but things don't get better from here.

I saw bits and pieces. Probably the most accurate part of that had to do with the segregation of hospital patients based on insurance coverage. I wouldn't be surprised if that kind of have/have not scenario plays out in all aspects where technology changes our lives for teh "better", but at a monetary cost.

Re: - The Future -

The future is what we make it and what we allow to happen. It's that simple. If we can agree and unite to stop things that we don't see as being good, we can prevent disaster. If we continue to disagree on the color of shit, we'll be knee deep in it. Technology itself is not a threat. Like a weapon, technology is just an instrument. The problem is, we continue to dance around the real issue, and we improperly place blame on the instrument. Technology can be beneficial, and it can be hurtful. It's up to the people that have it to exercise the right responsibility, and that's what we need to make certain.

For the record, I did not see the show so I can't comment on that... but the topic was interesting.
