Driving with Cell Phones

Just curious as to how many of you use your cell phones while driving. I use mine all time. I don't consider it any type of distraction either, and thats even while driving a manual transmission. What do you guys think about this topic?

Re: Driving with Cell Phones

Just watched the news and they had an article about it, how people are using more and more things that distract them. I.E. car companies installing iPod adapters, being able to use your phone through the car (via Bluetooth). Honestly, if you are going to use it, at least get a headset so you can have two hands on the wheel.

On the highway, you can do it. In traffic or around lights or anything like that... it's pretty damn distracting. Esp if you're driving an mtx - how do you hold the wheel, the shift, and the phone at the same time?

+1. My dad uses his cellphone as a business one, but only talks on the highway (does a ton of driving). When in town, though, he just tells the clients he'll call 'em back. Or he uses a headset, but even then, he doesn't like doing it.

Re: Driving with Cell Phones

I try not to answer my cell phone while driving, unless I'm wearing a headset. Even then, I try to tell the other party that I'm driving and that I'll call them back. When I call someone, it's usually to tell them that I'm almost at my destination, so my calls are less than a minute tops. I try to limit long conversations even if I'm wearing a headset.

I notice that the most dangerous drivers on the road are not only the speedfreaks weaving through traffic, but those who are on their cell phones driving slower than the flow of traffic, while not paying attention to anything around them. So, Kyle, if it's not a distraction to you, you must be VERY GOOD at multi-tasking. Nevertheless, I am glad you are not in my neck of the woods (no offense intended).

It's pretty easy. Hold the phone in your left hand and steer/shift with the right.

I don't do that anymore as I have my Bluetooth headset with me whenever I'm in the car.

That means you can't steer and shift at the same time... quite a problem on anything that isn't a highway.
