Anyone here have a hearing problem?

I have been hard of hearing for years and just got some hearing aids last month. The difference was incredible. My exhaust sounded totally different and I didn't have to rely on reading peoples lips to make sure I don't miss anything.

My father wears two hearing aids and also rely's mostly on reading lips. He taught [I guess] me how to do it, even though I can hear relatively well. I do think that living with him my whole life has in a way hindered my hearing -- as everything was always so darn loud.

I've taken hearing tests for my job [Navy] and they say I am in the "normal" range. Yet, I feel that there are some things I do not hear well. I hear higher and lower tones, with the middle getting washed out at times.

All these punks with their loud stereos and stuff -- I can only wait to see them in a few years.

My dad's the same way. Can't hear a damn thing, TV is always up incredibly loud. Sadly he doesn't have hearing aids and refused to. Makes him feel old.

I'm going to be hard of hearing later in life. Listen to my music and TV too loud, go to concerts, race tracks are incredibly noisy too. Oh well. Might as well enjoy it while I can.

I'm prone to ear infections, yet my doctor says I can hear outside what's considered the normal range for human ears.

Re: Anyone here have a hearing problem?

My Fiance wears hearing aids. I believe he has a 30% hearing loss in both of his ears. While he can hear OK without them If I try to talk to him normally and he might not hear me. I believe he had a lot of ear infections when he was little ( i did too and at the point where the doctors told me that if I had another my ear drum would explode)

+1 I'm figuring they should have even better methods of fixing it by the time I need anything

Re: Anyone here have a hearing problem?

I'm starting to think I might be developing a hearing problem, especially when watching TV. It's gotten to the point when I leave the captioning on all the time so I didn't have to concentrate on trying to make out dialog. I've had a lot of ear infections in the past but I've been working with locomotive air brakes for a while too, which probably hasn't helped at all. It's just the kind of thing it's not a problem if I'm paying attention, but if there's something going on that I'm not aware of it just doesn't make it through.

It's not to the point that I'm considering getting a hearing aid or anything yet, but it's only going to get worse from here on out.

Re: Anyone here have a hearing problem?

Well good to hear I am not the only one. I know plenty of people with glasses, but none with a hearing problem. What sucks is the fact that insurance doesn't cover them.
