Home theater alert!

So I got some Christmas $$ to spend....
Let's see $1000
First I ordered??
Polk Audio PSW404 subwoofer

Polk Audio RC65i X2 (in wall) for "front" speakers

Polk Audio RC55i X2 (in wall) for surround speakers #4-5

Then "next month" Center Speaker (not in wall) Polk Audio CSi5
and "rear" speakers (in wall)RC55i X2

Then Feb. let's see??? I'm thinking one of these...

Then later in the year the 50"+ plasma!

Shouldn't be much over $5000 total!

Re: Home theater alert!

As a fellow polk owner - two things:

Congrats!

And sorry to say, but lose the psw404 - there are much better subs out there for the same price or a smidge more. If you can cancel the order or return the sub, I would try looking at SVS, HUS, or Velodyne.

My rig right now consists of:

Denon 3805 receiver
2 RTi10 fronts - upgraded from 2 RT55i (great bookshelfs, but I needed a little more oomph!)
1 CS245i center - I am upgrading to a CSi5 shortly
2 Rt35i surrounds - not in a hurry since they are sonically very similar, but I plan on replacing these with RTi6 eventually

and a Velodyne CHT-10, which I had tested against a PSW505 and it was much better than the polk for the same price as the 404. As a matter of fact, I am building a HT system for my mom, and will prolly give her the CHT-10 and upgrade to one of Velodynes new digital subs - they really sounded nice.

Home theater is worse than modding cars, you are always upgrading and swapping out equipment. Over the summer I got a Westinghouse 42w2 42" 1080p LCD monitor and that started my "upgraditis" all over again, after being content for over a year.

Next I am looking at an Outlaw amp (or a cheap Parasound Halo or Anthem if I find a good deal - yeah right) to provide the power, and use the Denon as a pre-pro.

AARRGH! damn you for getting my wheels turning again! :rtfm:

:P

Re: Home theater alert!

Yea home theater is a terrible terrible habit to pick up lol. My project right now is getting HD-DVD playback on my HTPC (Using the Xbox360 HD-DVD drive). Currently my HTPC consists of a P4 Nothwood at 3.6ghz, 1gb of ram, with a Radeon 9800pro. I can run the VC1 and Mpeg2 discs ok but the H.264 encodes are a freaking slideshow. I have ordered an Athlon64 X2 4400+, 7600GT HDCP compliant video card and an Asus SLI motherboard and should be receiving those goodies sometime next week.

For the display side of things I was using an Optoma HD70 720p projector but I just sold it and I am picking up a Mitsubishi HD1000U 720p projector. (Since the price on the Mitsubishi was just dropped five hundred bucks down to $999 !!) My screen is a custom built 132" 16:9 frame with Stuart Studiotek 130 material and 4" of black felt border.

My audio setup is pretty modest, I purchased everything when I was still in highschool and it still sounds good to my ears so I haven't upgraded.
-Sony STR-DB930 receiver
-Acoustic Research S50 fronts
-Acoustic Research S20 Rears
-Acoustic Research SC2 Center
-10" Velodyne Sub... no idea on the model number anymore.
-All speaker cable is "Premium III" from http://www.bettercables.com
-Monster Cable HTS2500 Power Center

100% of what I watch is fed via the HTPC. My video watching is mostly DVD (Upsampled and Cleaned up via FFDshow), and random standard and high def content from the newsgroups. My audio collection is all Ogg Vorbis lossless audio. Sound output is handled with an Audigy 2 ZS via 6 channel analogue output into the 6 channel input on the receiver. I was using Coaxial SPDIF for a while but reverted back to analogue so I can do Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD audio on the HD-DVD's

And yep I think that is about everything

2005 Mazda3 SP23 Hatchback, Progress Springs, Eibach Adjustable Camber Kit, Progress RSB, Mazdaspeed Shocks/Struts, TWM STS, RX-8 Shinka Rims, Sharkfin, other neat stuff
