Re: Skydiver survives 15,000 foot plunge

whatever thats weak. 15,000? he should've jumped from 20,000 for sure.

imagine the odds that he'd land in a brush pile. and imagine how shitty of a skydive that was for him. all the time freefalling knowing your about to just become human soup au gratin.

He was way, way below terminal velocity. As the article mentioned, his main parachute *was* open, it was just tangled up and he was spinning. That means there was still some resistance (drag) from the tangled up 'chute... enough to slow him down just enough to survive, thanks to the brush.

If it were, he wouldn't be alive. He would have left a nice crater in the ground.... brush or no brush.

Then again, according to Wiki, people have survived.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_fall

Very hard to believe if you ask me. By the way, Wiki quotes terminal velocity for a human body around 120mph. I've seen car crashes at slower speeds where you could no longer identify the body.

Re: Skydiver survives 15,000 foot plunge

lol, one of the links from the Wiki article is this: http://www.greenharbor.com/fffolder/carkeet.html

It's definately an entertaining read. I don't know if I'd want to test it out, though. It's tips on how to supposedly survive freefall w/out a parachute.

This sounds like something to setup for a science class...don't know if you would get past the "lab fee" though..
