Another rediculous lawsuit

The way the article is written makes it sound worse, but there is a story that goes with it...
The firefighter worked for the departmment for 20 years. he was known at the station as a prankster. he participated in hazing and other pranks on other guys. The day before he was in a volleyball game saying "feed the big dog" (pass the ball) so in a harmless prank they laced his food with dog food. ALSO. he was involved earlier in a prank where he shaved a fellow firefighter's genetalia, which when asked about in court UNDER OATH lied about it. (pictures surfaced that he was involved) Why isnt he being tried for pergery?

the lawers final argument include the lawyer saying, "he can no longer do the job he loved for 20yrs" so he was a victim of racism everyday and LOVED WORKING THERE???

This is almost as stupid as people sueing mcdonalds cause it made them fat and the ingredients wernt properly displayed. Does special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a seseme seed bun good enough?

Re: Another rediculous lawsuit

Quote:
LOS ANGELES - The city is paying $2.7 million to settle a lawsuit from a black firefighter who claims he suffered racial discrimination after co-workers served him spaghetti laced with dog food.

The City Council approved the award Wednesday, 11-1.

In his lawsuit, firefighter Tennie Pierce, 51, said after he took a bite of the meal two years ago, he noticed other firefighters laughing. He demanded to know what was in the food after a second bite but nobody answered.

Pierce said he suffered retaliation for reporting the incident and verbal slurs, insults and derogatory remarks, including taunting by firefighters “barking like dogs (and) asking him how dog food tasted,” the lawsuit said.

David Wellman, a professor at the University of California, Santa Cruz hired by Pierce’s attorney, said the association of a black man and dog food “resonates with the deep historical roots of slavery and the corresponding dehumanization.”

“It’s not just silly stuff. It’s racially motivated,” he said.

As part of the settlement, the two captains involved were given one month off without pay, and a firefighter was ordered off work for three days without pay.

“I truly hope that my case will make a difference for African-Americans in the Los Angeles Fire Department,” Pierce said in a statement.

where are you getting the 20 yrs of service, prankster and all the other stuff. doesnt seem to be in the article

I also disagree with it being racially motivated...it may have been but if what you've said is true then it was just another prank and he didnt like it getting done to him so he got money out of it.

Re: Another rediculous lawsuit

hmm

so either pranks and hazing are ok or they are not. There isn't any "pranks are ok, except if someone things they go too far."

This guy should have been fired years ago. That he still had a job to sue over speaks to the stupidity of the dept leaderership.

Im not neccesarily a fan of hazing but I do understand how frats and places like this use it as a bonding experience and honestly would have no problem with it as long as it wasnt harmful to the person. This does seem like it is a man who is normally on the other side of the prank and he didnt like the fact he got pranked and it started a little joke he didnt like.

was it racally motivate we have no idea, it's doubtful but we really cant know for sure.

it was probably the city settling to hopefully stop a long media annoyance around the case

Re: Another rediculous lawsuit

judges are not as stupid as the random out-of-context case summary can make you feel. The McD cases had merit, and I am sure so does this one. Don't complain until you read the entire case at the library and become a judge.

then how would you explain a lady sueing mcdonalds because SHE spilt hot coffee on herself and got 1.3mil for it. how is her carelessness entitle her to that?

A) this is the internet people complain for whatever reason possible.
B) I am not a judge nor do I ever plan on being one therefore I wont be going to a library to read the case.
C) If I was provided with the case file I would have read it and very likely come to the same conclusion. BUT I don’t have nor was I given any way to reference it except as you said go through every case file in LA to find it.
So I take the to reports given in this thread which do show multiple facts that may not have been the full story but does so a good amount of the whole picture. Then based my comments off of it, complaining that this man used his resources to find a way to make what was seemingly pranking that he himself had been a part of for decades and make it racial purely to get money.

If you don’t like people complaining about something, and only using what they are given you have two options. 1) give them resources that explain reasoning and changes their mind. 2) get off the internet because you will never stop seeing it.

On a side note can you show us evidence the McD cases had merit?
