What makes any religion.....

....other than the Catholic religion correct?? Not looking to start a flame war but trying to see what people think makes any religion other than the Catholic one, ie: Morman, Prodestant, Jehovah Witness etc, correct?? All the other ones were founded wayyyyy after the death of Christ unlike the Catholic church whos powers were originally bestowed onto Peter by Jesus as he was on the cross.....

Re: What makes any religion.....

because most other religions don't have serious problems with controlling the fornication between their main enforcers and little boys & girls. they win by default.

Re: What makes any religion.....

Biped while I agree that the issue of molestation by a select number in supervisory positions within the Catholic church is wrong it is not a part of the teachings of the Catholic Doctorine. Other religions suffer from the same problems but not to the published degree the Catholic church does. My question relates to what makes any religion think they are the "true" religion if they were founded in the last couple of hundred years...

Obviously you haven't done any research into Orthodoxy in the East. I'm sorry, but the Catholic church is not the only one that can lay claim to being directly bestowed onto Peter by Jesus. The two churches used to be united prior to the Great Schism.

Re: What makes any religion.....

To the best of my knowledge..I will try to answer your questions TGM3

With the whole Protestant group, itís just a case of difference of opinion and splitting up. It all use to be one Christian religion at first, but I believe in the 11th century the eastern rite (Orthodox Church) split up. Then in sometime in the 15th/16th century Luther and company (Protestant) decided to split from the Catholic Church. Itís a big debate issue, so no need to get into it right now, but I believe they all basically have the right intentions (Jesus as their savior) and I also think its going to take a huge miracle to bring everyone back together as one again (but then again, nothing is impossible with God).

As for the Mormons and Jehovahís, thatís a whole other ball game. You canít really put them in with Christianity since their views/believes go directly against what Jesus preached. Infact, Jesus warned to stay away from Ďfalse prophetsíÖ but ..anyyyyyyyway.. that too is a whole big issue that will take the rest of the forum space to answer

Re: What makes any religion.....

ever played a game of telephone?

what makes any of you actually think that any of the teachings, writings, mythology or practices of any religion, especially the "originals", are anywhere near what was originally intended? that is to say, if anything was intended at all... be it "true" or otherwise.

Re: What makes any religion.....

3andme school me on this then. Thats what Im trying to find out about here...I mean the Orthodox church split away from the Catholic church after its founding which means the Catholic church still claims to be the founding religion from Jesus' teachings. True??

Re: What makes any religion.....

Just read what 3andMe wrote, and he made a great point.

Did you know that you as a Catholic can receive communion in the Orthodox church?
I was suprised to learn that too...

The Orthodox church along with the Catholic church have descendants from the disciples and administer the sacrament as Jesus taught... So if you're visiting Greece, and you realize its Sunday and can't find a church, its ok to go to the Orthodox church and receive the sacrament

Thats a very broad question, but you have to just go along with the bible...
If the bible is too much for you, take a look at what the early church fathers practised and learned

(the early church fathers are some of the earliest theologians of the Christian Church and they were also taught by the disciples... they also put together what me and you know today as the Bible)
