mini dv to computer problem

i have a canon zr30mc minidv camcorder. i just bought a firewire card to import all my old tapes.
in the device manager on my computer it shows the card working properly but i cannot get it to connect to the camera.

this is my first time using firewire and i assumed it was like usb--just plug it in and go.
i have been to the canon web site and they have no drivers for this camera. im lost please help.

Re: mini dv to computer problem

all the manual said was power off everything hook it up then power back on.

if your talking about the software for the firewire, ive installed it twice.

Make sure the camera is in playback mode, not recording mode. If that doesn't help, go to canon.com and see if you can get a firewire driver for your camera.

EDIT: another thing I just thought of... I'm not totally familiar with that particular model, but if it has a card slot, make sure the switch is set to tape and not card.

Re: mini dv to computer problem

Try Googling it... sounds like this is a problem most people encounter with this camera. Go over the manual and consider e-mailing Cannon USA directly. This link may help in case you did not find it yet: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...p;modelid=7452
