Help stop the dolphin hunt!

* *Unite to fight Japan's dolphin hunt

A coalition of marine scientists has lanunched a campaign to halt Japan's annual "dolphin drive", in which thousands of bottlenose dolphins are herded into shallow coves to be slaughtered with knives and clubs.
* * The government-sanctioned event, which extends throught the fall and winter has been under fire for years from environmental and animal rights activists.
...the hunt is nothing less than a ritual massacre of creatures that, according to a growing body of research, are not just intelligent but sophisticatedly self aware!

Details, including the citizens petition and a statement from scientists, are being posted at:

Re: Help stop the dolphin hunt!

This is so sad!
Figures it would take humans to do something as stupid as this!
I think those dolphins are smarter than us

THIS NEEDS TO STOP

Reminds me of the sonofabitches that were killing baby seals in I think Alaska or Antarctica.

Re: Help stop the dolphin hunt!

funny that dolphins being killed and hurricanes and levees breaking seems to get such a response, but we can't help the millions dying of aids, hunger and malnutrition.

not that i think this is any less of a cause to support. just seems like sometimes human issues are "old news" in comparison to the cause of the week.

what makes those of you that eat meat feel bad for these dolphins over, say, the animals slaughtered to fill your tummy? :?

Re: Help stop the dolphin hunt!

Not to sound cold or anything, but some people are just so naive. I don't see a reason to do a global protest over this. It's tradition, just like every table in america will have at least one turkey. There's no hoopla over the 260million turkeys that will be slaughtered/butchered. I hunt/fish every so often and clean what I catch, so I sort of know what goes on behind the scenes w/ the meat you buy at the grocery store. Why do all the turkeys come w/o a head on the neckbone, it's not to hide it away from us. Simple...... to kill hunters shoot them/slaughter houses will break the neckbone. Next, hang upside down and behead and let it drain for an hour. Back to the dolphins, it's not like they are throwing the meat/carcasses away....they turn it into pet food/fertilizer. Nothing different than taking a cow, pig, poultry to the slaughter house. From what I gather, they are now using a single shot to the head/neck to incapacitate the dolphin rather instantly. They've already changed the traditional way of throat slitting to the slaugherhouse industry standard. Hunting is almost up there w/ a slow-death for medium to big-game, where the shot doesn't instantly kill....deers have been known to run a good half-mile after shot before they drop.

Every animal on this earth has some sense of self-awareness, I'm sure all the animals we send down 'tunnel' to fulfill our appetite don't go down that path on their own free will. So think about that, before you eat your meal from now on.

Re: Help stop the dolphin hunt!

Disagree, these are a high level species, not your typical goldfish in a fish bowl.
They are very smart and their brain resembles ours.
Their sonar and telepathy like communication is something to be admired!
These fish ARE NOT meant to be killed.
There have been many cases where they help humans in need.
They even have a curring effect on the ill.

Think that next time you make such a generalized statement......

Re: Help stop the dolphin hunt!

Not to mention, cows and turkeys are bred BY HUMANS for human consumption.* They're not relying on Mother Nature to keep the population strong.* *Actions like this on the part of the Japanese could easily cause the demise of the species, and at the very least a severe imbalance in the food chain of the world's oceans.* Sharks go hungry, hundreds of species of fish go overpopulated, and the impact rolls on.*

Due to human intervention, we're not likely to see turkeys or cows on an endangered species list.*

Actually a recent study suggests that dolphins not even close to being as intelligent as we had initially thought. In fact, this study concluded they are pretty dumb. Dumber than rats...follow the link below to read up on this study.

Dolphins are dumb

Telepathy? lol. There is no credible evidence to suggest dolphins use telepathy to communicate. As for sonar, bats have a very complex sonar system too, yet they are considered pests.

Dolphins are mammals, not fish. Why is it that they are not meant to be killed but other animals are? That doesn't make sense at all.

There have been many instances of dolphins injuring swimmers because of the popular notion that dolphins are extremely smart, love humans and only want to play. In fact, every year dozens of swimmers get injured because a horny male dolphin tries to sex them up.

Aquariums, dogs, cats, hell just about any pet can have a curing effect on the ill. It has more to do with the unconditional love most pets give or the soothing effect they have on the person. An arachnophobic will not be cured of anything if you give him a pet spider for instance. Prolly kill him/her sooner though.

To be fair, you've made quite a few yourself without any explanation.

All that aside, I would like to make it clear I am morally against dolphin/whale/seal/deer/bird hunting. I think we should be past the stage where we still need to rely on natural resources as opposed to relying on domestically raised or grown resources for sustenance OR sport.
