Cell Phone Service Help Thread! Ask The Specialist(s)!

Been working at RadioShack for over a year and a large part of the business is wireless. Pre-paid and post-paid. I'd like to make this a sticky topic for those who have any questions about their service and such. Deciding between plans, companies and any other questions you may have. I will try to be as unbiased as possible, but for the record, I highly dislike Verizon because of their demeaning advertising and constant renewal of contracts w/o customers fully understanding the implications (they are getting better tho).

I will start with some simple facts:

Cingular has the most customers in the USA.
T-Mobile is the only provider with the popular Sidekick.
Verizon advertises and markets much more than the other companies which is why a lot of people think they are the best when its not.
Sprint is the leader is mobile media and is the only provider who will support PCS voice and Nextel 2-way in one phone.

+1. Saw a commercial for the 'Blackjack', any reviews/news out on it? Looks pretty cool, with MP3's and whatnot. Although I've had a RAZR for quite awhile now, I'm starting to get sick of it (been through 4, different problem with them everytime )

Re: Cell Phone Service Help Thread! Ask The Specialist(s)!

Ive owned a cell phone business for two years

Yeah with the Cing merge it really scorched them

Most coverage from carriers is regional as for western USA i have found Verizon to be the best carrier, really depends on the towers in place and sharing, also you should include Alltel which is on a partner situation that is going to be HUGE soon, unless it crumbles like most other small guys trying to get into the big 4, and Quest is still in there along with handfull of other carriers

BTW each carrier has their own special phones, some are duplicated with different versions to go accross the board as seen in Samsung/Motorola and Nokia in the most part, and each carrier has the same agenda but focuses better in certain parties and areas of the US/world

Im still waiting for Tmobile and VZW to merge, i mean Sprint/Nextel and At&t/Cing had the good ideas

Re: Cell Phone Service Help Thread! Ask The Specialist(s)!

i have Cingular, and I currently own an unlocked Samsung D820 (Quad-band), which is the European/Factory version of T-Mobile's T809.
I am wondering if I should switch to the LG KG800 Chocolate. Not the one from Verizon, but the European one.
It is tri-band, so it is GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900
I've read that the 850 Mhz band is necessary for majority of the US. Is that correct?
I am wanting to use this around Central Texas.

What's your advice?
Thanks.

Blackjacks are the Smartphone's from Samsung. They'd be a really big step from the RAZR, since they are more comparable with the Moto Q.
Here are two reviews:
