Is wanting to be popular a bad thing?

Hi all,

The topic about you on the internet and you in real life got me thinking. Is it a bad thing to want to be popular? I think we all just want to be accepted. Like myself for example, I'm been working real hard to move up the soical ladder and I'm starting to see results...slowly seeing results. Because of this I feel better about myself, I'm actually happy sometimes.

So I guess the question is, is wanting to fit in a bad thing? And how far is to far when trying to become popular. The movie Mean Girls comes to mind..

Thanks!

yes and no... you are the one that defines what is good and what is bad. basically, if it makes you feel good... then it is good. if you feel bad... then it's bad. Of course, in the eyes of society that might be a totally different thing, but in the case of being popular, well it means that society agrees with you.

Re: Is wanting to be popular a bad thing?

but dont try to get into where you start becoming worldly. Like start doing the sins other do.
Dont start using drugs to get cool. Dont start doing dumb stuff like calling in bomb threats to get cool.
You know, yeah people including myself want people to like me or us. But the my favorite advice my friend gave me was "Be Paul". (I am paul by the way lol). I was a kinda quiet kid in high school, in my senior year ppl knew who i was and stuff, and in college, people like me for who I am. Im the nice guy who doesnt make fun of others or gets into fights. But i am not a wimp either.

Dress better and having a good hairstyle helps. Outward Appearance.
And be yourself. Dont worry to much about other ppl critizing you, but dont be annoying either.

Think before you act.

That's great advice Paul.

Why do you want to "climb the social ladder" and what does that mean? Who do you think is "above" you and why are they better and you worse?

At some point you need to do things for yourself, and not anyone else. You need to do the things that make you happy, whether it's underwater basket weaving, solving math problems, helping out at the senior center, or sitting home at night watching movies because you actually APPRECIATE good cinemetography. Don't be afraid to be the only one doing something.

Sorry I didn't answer your question.

Wanting to be popular is not inherantly a bad thing. What you do to get there is what will get you in trouble.

Networking is what gets you places in life, not skill. Skill just helps.

^^^
One could argue 'networking' is a skill in itself.
