Had to put my dog down yesterday...

We found out about a month ago that she had cancer in her mouth (some red spots were becoming visible on the roof of her mouth). Over the course of the last month, a tumor about the size of a golfball developed in her cheek, and was giving her uber problems when trying to eat. She would bite IT everytime she tried chewing her food & her mouth would bleeeeeeed like a son-of-a-gun. Then the red spots on the roof of her mouth began swelling downward (yes, all in the course of only ONE month).

...and on top of all that, she was already a diabetic. Only 8 1/2 - 9 years old... it pretty much sucks.

I know how it feels man, we had to put down our last dog, b/c of an uncontrollable worm problem.

Sorry to hear about it though.

Re: Had to put my dog down yesterday...

Thx for all the kind words guys. I'm only 21, and this dog was with me through all my "growing pains" of high-school & whatnot... so I think that's why it sucks so bad right now, but I wouldn't assume it's ever easy.

She was a Basenji mix (mixed with what, we're not sure). We got her from the humaine society in the summer of 1999 when she was only 1 1/2 years old... so it's not like she was super-old.

Re: Had to put my dog down yesterday...

I feel for you. As you can tell from my avatar, I love dogs. Two and three years ago I had to put down my Chows, who were brother and sister. My male was first, because of hip and joint failure. Then one year later, to the exact day , I had to put his sister down because she had a stroke. My male made it 12 years, and my female 13.

To this day it still sucks when I think about it, but they're both out of pain now, so that makes me feel better. Last year, I rescued the dog you see in my avatar (Sarina), and she now has a special place in my heart along with Zeke and Sasha.

Re: Had to put my dog down yesterday...

I am sorry to read you had to put your dog down

A little over 2 years ago, I had to put my childhood dog (Named Riley) of 15 years down, because he had a stroke, and was having trouble walking. He really got me through my childhood since I wasn't the best behaved of children When my female dog had puppies, we named one of the puppies after him because he behaved so much like him.
