^^
i work in public education as well, we had a meeting regarding all the recent school shootings and the school systems efforts to "protect" students/facuty/staff--we actually are having a lock down drill on Thursday--

i fear for my students as well as my coworkers, you never imagine a school shooting could occur at your school, but you always ask yourself "what if it did, and if it did what would you do" we had a staff meeting last week and that question was proposed to us and i honestly don't think anyone really knew what to say--

Re: Bring your gun to school week continues.....

perhaps step one is NOT ALLOWING THE KIDS TO HAVE ACCESS TO GUNS!!11111111112

step two might be not designing the public education system is such a way as to promote a para-caste system that promotes a student heirarchy.

and, hey, this is just me but i don't think detention is really doing much anymore...

yeah.. there's always 'that one kid'.. I mean, I personally wouldn't want to work with school education for this one reason: There's to many kids to worry about doing this one thing.

+1 on detention.. I think they should go back to the ol' days with the slapping the hand with a yard stick..

Re: Bring your gun to school week continues.....

lawsuits and greed have filtered through our "perfect" system and into every aspects of life. can't spank kids anymore because they'll call social services. your kid can't smack around some idiot who is calling him a pansy because that kids' parents will slap the other kids' parents with a lawsuit and so on. teachers can't discipline kids anymore because of the threat of an uzi stuck into their face. not necessarily a fan of beating your kids, but when i was younger the mere threat of a beating was enough... and i'm only 23.

kids today have too much freedom. way, way, way too much freedom. we must impose rules and the threat of consequences, but first, we must impose ninjas.

ninja-smackdown-discipline list is as follows:

um, i work at a bank, and risk robbery every day, but its still my job. fact is is that this has gotten way out of hand nation wide. i have been following both stories extremely close, as well as the 9th grader shooting his principal to death. completely intolerable. i dunno what the answer is, but something must be done. i always thought that my high school sucked ass cuz we couldnt have visitors unless they were our legal guardian, i cant even go visit my lil bro at the school i graduated from, but in all honesty, id rather those kids be safe than me be able to eat lunch with my brother.

quite the contrary, our rival school, 7 mins away, where my gf attended, i just walked through the front door with a complete cookie cake in my hand and no one said a word, nor did they ask who i was or why i was there. not exactly safe.
