I need a problem to solve...

Just a quick poll, what kind of things do you find annoying around the house? Are there any things that you feel should be made more convenient or efficient? Any new technologies you would like to see that you might find useful or interesting? Maybe in your office or somewhere else? Some improvement for your car that you think would be a good idea? Do you like your current appliances?

I'm looking for a design topic for my senior design project. It's required so I can get my degree. I'm not looking for suggestions on HOW to solve a problem, I just need ideas on what kinds of things you feel should be improved on, or looked into. How could your day-to-day life be more convenient, safe, or productive?

Please, if you decide to contribute ideas for me, I ask that you do not give any ideas on how to go about solving it. Just list the problem please, otherwise I cannot use it. For instance, a perfect post would be "hey, I wish I didn't have to vacuum my house as often. I'm very busy." Nothing more. Also, understand that I cannot discuss details about my design idea once I choose a topic because a) I have to protect the idea from now until I present the final product, or I will fail and b) my university has a financial interest in any possible developments from my design.

Feel free to send ideas to my PM box.

I appreciate your help :-) It will help me earn my degree.

Re: I need a problem to solve...

haha, yeah... unfortunately, senior design is a graduation requirement for all engineering majors. If we DO happen to make something that would sell, we get peanuts and the school gets fatter. But we at least get our degrees and can say "see you later" to the administration once and for all. ;-)\

MAJOR pain in the ass for all of us. It's going to be a stressful next 27 weeks. I have 5 technical classes this term on top of all this crap.

Re: I need a problem to solve...

Well thanks all for the input. We talked to some faculty and it looks like we'll be designing computer components for an Electron Beam Induced Current system on a Scanning Electron Microscope. Should be fun. We were given an introduction to the EBIC yesterday. Pretty neat stuff... it's going to be a fun toy to play with. We got to see what a transistor looks like on a nanometer scale.

Mods, you can close this one.

I was going to suggest some type of electronic mover that you can load groceries onto or other heavy objects to move from the garage (when you come home) to the inside of the house so you don't have to lug things around.

Thanks. It's a little late now, but I appreciate it. We're going to have a blast working with the EBIC I'm sure.
