I was looking at the new Stang with the V-6 and 5-speed, but lucky for you I chose the M3. :P I would guess straight line maybe the stang, but in the curvy stuff M3 all the way?? Anyone know one way or the other?

Only one way to find out.

Find a Stang owner and let's get this going.

Mustang:* From Consumer Guide: "V6 furnishes brisk takeoffs--test automatic-transmission coupe did 6.9 sec 0-60 mph--but suffers sluggish throttle response that dulls midrange pickup"

Mustang: From C/D
Zero to 60 mph: 6.9 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 19.0 sec
Street start, 5-60 mph: 7.2 sec
Standing 1/4-mile: 15.3 sec @ 91 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 113 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 189 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.79 g
EPA fuel economy, city driving: 19 mpg
C/D-observed fuel economy: 21 mpg

Masda 3:* From Consumer Guide:* "Peppier s models have better performance overall; test manual-transmission hatchback did 8.0 sec 0-60 mph."

Mazda 3:* From Car and Drive:* "our tester did the 0-to-60 dash in 7.4 seconds, covered the quarter-mile in 16 seconds flat at 87mph, and attained 100mph in 22.8 seconds. Those are remarkable numbers for a car in this class."

I think the Mustang has you.* I don't see a stock Mazda 3 running low to mid 15's at 90 mph.* Maybe a Mazda6 V6 could.* But put a good driver in a 3 against a bad driver in a Stang and the story could change..*

I can take the older style v6 stang but cant take the new one. How do I know? I raced my buddy in his old one and own him every time. Not by much but a win is a win.

Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer

car and driver almost always reviews manuals, therefore those numbers are not comparable

Why aren't they comparable? He has a manual Mazda3, and every number I posted is from a manual (Stang and Mazda). Ok, I haven't driven either, so I really can't talk much about it other than posting some numbers from various rags. Magazine racing is fun! Almost as fun as dyno racing!

read that missed the part where the numbers for the stang were from car and driver

Re: Mazda 3 5-speed V/S New Mustang V-6 5-speed, who would win a race??

Yeah the older v6 mustangs had something like 195hp, compared to the 230hp in the newer V6 stangs with somewhat comperable weight if memory serves. In the twisties it would be absolutely no comparison, the mild acceleration advantage the V6 stang has would not be able to counter the huge handling advantage that the 3i and 3s have. The old V6 was nothing to compare against (my 3i could walk away from one).

Now if it was mostly straight or all straight that would be a different story.

I took care of an early '00s V6 stang.

He spent all his money on a body saleen body kit and nothing on his engine. It also helped that when he coaxed me to run, he missed is 2-3 shift. LOL
