Superman Returns - my take - no spoilers

I was supposed to see this last Saturday(premiere) but missed it, so I went to an early showing last night.

First to anyone, that included me, that thought Brandan Routh(Superman/Clark) would do a bad good. You will be pleasantly surprised. In fact he nailed those roles so well you would think Christopher Reeve was there again in some scenes.

The first half of the film is quite good, excellent really. Quirky, funny, action sequences are good. The latter half loses that quirky funny aspect that made the first half a good time for the audience. Yes this is more the serious part of the film, but its a little too much of a change. The ending is way too drawn out. It's a 20 minute wrapup, i'd liken it to LOTR extended edition of ROTK...too many scene breaks to conclude stuff that could have been done faster.

I still very much recommend it to anyone that wanted to see it, or anyone apprehensive about Brandon's acting.

Kevin Spacey did a very good job and although I wasn't convinced by Kate Bosworth, she did ok.

Re: Superman Returns - my take - no spoilers

while I agree Superman 1 and 2 were classics, they had their faults. Characters aside, they had horribly cheesy effects.

except for the drawn out ending, I say this is very much in line with the greatness that made those old ones classics. While lois wasn't great in the new one, I would say everyone else was equally well done, Clark, superman, and lex. Of course the effects were much better and as for storyline....Superman 2 was a little hokey, albiet still fun.

I thought this one had way too much poor computer animation. Superman always looked plasticky, like he was being generated on a playstation or something.

Other than that... it was a bit mushy, but good overall.

I refuse to see a superman movie unless it features Darkseid or Doomsday

Re: Superman Returns - my take - no spoilers

I saw it at midnight as well. I had a few qualms with the movie. First, was it just me or after the movie was done, i didnt feel any deep emotion for any of the characters like i did in batman or spiderman? Also, Lois Lane did NOT float my boat. Im sorry if i offend anyone, but i thought she was ugly and i thought she did not fit the bill of Lois Lane. She was too quiet, to reserved.

Also, many people liked Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor, but it pisses me off to no avail that Michael Rosenbuam wasnt Lex Luthor. No matter who i see in the Luthor role from now on, i cant be satisifed with anyone but Rosenbaum. He nails the Lex Luthor role so perfectly that its almost painful.

maybe your theatre had problems cuz everything looked great to me...I think your confusing his suit with CG since his suit in normal shots looks plasticy because of the material they used, so of course its going to look plasticy in the CG scenes. His face and everything else is perfect.

The reason you didn't feel attached may have been the horribly drawn out ending. It basically took me completely out of the movie and made me want to get out of the theatre(not walk out of the movie, but basically anticipate the ending so i could leave).

as for MR playing Lex, well I thought earlier that Tom Welling should have played Sup, but after watching Brandon do his thing, i was pleased. Lex had to be older in this picture, so MR wouldn't have worked, although I agree he is a great Lex.
