Re: INSANE COP!!

Not surprised its full of those kinda cops out there. With him pulling out the gun. That was ok imo because the person wasnt stoping and when they did. You never know they could have a gun or something. But its the way he handled it. He couldve stayed behind his door and order her out with his gun drawn. And another thing you dont make an arrest like that with oncoming traffic. Should have been on the other side of the car. Very dangerous. Glad he got fired. Shame on him to being an 11 year vet with the force.

Re: INSANE COP!!

That cop deserved to be fired..He was over reacting in a major way. There is almost never a need to pull you gun on someone unless they have been driving like a crazy maniac a nd wont pull over..but just taking a while to pull over is no excuse.

Re: INSANE COP!!

Yeah, I can understand being annoyed at taking 8 miles to pull over, but it didn't seem/sound like she was really running from him or anything (not like going 100+mph and blowing stop signs and lights). She also didn't seem to pose an imminent danger nor did it seem like she needed to be pulled from her car.

Now turning the ignition off is a resonable request. That was about the only resonable request he made.

Re: INSANE COP!!

eh.....if she had pulled over 7.5 miles sooner this never would have happened. She also didn't just simply get out of the car when he told her to. It always amazes me when people refuse to obey police commands and then wonder why they get roughed up. It's like that discussion we had previously where the cop tasers that lady. You don't tell the cop to wait while you're on the phone like that lady did, and you don't tell him to wait while you get your keys like this one did either.

As far as "needing" to be pulled from her car, it seems pretty simple to me. Cop orders he out of the car, she refuses. Sounds like she needed to be pulled out. The cop isn't wrong until a jury says he is. Suppose he wasn't overreacting and she was reaching for a weapon of some sort? If the intro to the tape had said "after an 8-mile pursuit, the officer is finally able to pull over the fleeing suspect" instead of what was on there, I don't think the reaction would have been so negative to his actions until you learned the outcome. Even old ladies can carry guns and knives.

That being said, it was quite obviously an overreaction by the cop, and it's a good thing that there's one less incredibly high-strung cop on the highway. Still, it's not like the lady did nothing to provoke that reaction.

Re: INSANE COP!!

Aren't there some sort of rules for escalating the use of force. Seems to me that he should have ordered her out of the car from behind rather than standing in the middle of the highway. Logically speaking he put himself in much more danger by approaching the vehicle and standing in the road. If anything he let his rage make him grossly negligent which could have cost the state a lot more money if she had been hit by a car and possibly lead to his own death.

Re: INSANE COP!!

And now for an example of stupid cops

As a warning this video depicts someone shooting themselves in the head...wether its real or not is up for debate.

there's a continuum of force, but you get to begin in various places on the chart depending on the situation. If someone is fleeing from the police in a vehicle and you're moving to apprehend them, then I would imagine the having your weapon drawn is perfectly fine. Very different than just pulling out your gun when a speeder stops as soon as you put your lights on

Hex, I'm no cop, but I can tell you the following....
Absolutely there are rules that were not followed here that we can *see*. If there had been evidence of a weapon in the car, or the driver/passengers using weapons or providing threat, the cop would have a) had to have called for backup (which could have been en-route during this video), and b) the cop would have had his gun/weapon ready at that time.

There was *no* reason for use of a weapon that we can see here (not that we have the full story, keep in mind), or for use of force dragging the driver from the car.

If he was tailing her with signals for a long time, then he would have called for backup and things should have been a little different, so I am unclear on this story at all. There's a lot of missing information here.

Regardless, dude acted a little uhm...out of line and overly-aggressive.
