You can try stepping down from what you really want, to something you just want. :-P It might broaden the choices for you..

I know when I was last appartment searching, there were a bunch of free services like that. Apparently the properties pay to be listed with the services, so it's free to the users. I never had much luck with the free ones, but there were also a couple of places where you'd pay a one-time fee of about $50 and they'd sit down with you and put together a list of potential places, kind of like a realtor. They were all local offices though, so I couldn't actually point you in a specific direction, other than to say that they exist.

It's not exactly a buyers' market right now... at least not in Philadelphia. Prices are going up. It's a pain if your looking for a place, no doubt.

Re: Trying to find an appm sucks

I am guessing your girl friend is looking at moving to the city? That is expensive as heck. My 2 bed 2 bath apartment (1000sq ft) is $1225 a month including the extra 25 a month for 'pet rent'. Of course it is not in a city, it is about 7 miles south of baltimore. Finding apartments in a city can be really bad. Finding one near a city usually isn't as bad.

The killer for me is finding a house (I HATE housing prices in my area)...I gotta start doing that in about 6 months.

Re: Trying to find an appm sucks

I'm tempted to throw in a crack about baltimore, but I'll leave it alone this time.

2 bedroom/2 bath apt in VA a few miles south of DC runs me $2025/month. Not as bad as some other places, but still higher than what I'd like to pay.

As far as finding a place to live in FL, would you be able to go down there and look in person? It might help if you just go to the area you want to live and walk into every apt complex you see and ask what's available. Where are we talking about, anyway?

Damn..I'd die. I'm guessing income differentials make up for this, but gees....that's a lot of money out the window every month. The last 3/2/2 house I rented was $1150. And NYC.....forgetaboutit.

I'm about a mile from the GW Bridge in Jersey (NYC burbs) and rent on the 2br 2bath condo is $1900. It's an hour commute for my 11 mile trip to the city for work, but I walk the last 15-20 mins of that. Thank god I have roommates to split that - I'd never be able to pull that off along with utils. Though that ends next month and I am going back to PA for the monster commute! Woohoo.
