A fun field to get into

I was watching a show on the travel channel last night about concept cars, and they kept mentioning a school in Pasadena, Cali. To get a job designing cars you have to get a BS in Transportation Design which only takes 8 terms. Unfortunately tuition is $13k a term. I am considering quitting my job and going down there to go to school. Hoping I can work out some sort of deal for financial aid.

Re: A fun field to get into

cool man. i wondered how ppl got jobs at designing cars. Trans. design? hmm.. i think i could get the army to pay for that. but man the school would have to have ROTC...
ive wanted to design cars when i was little. I had a corvette toy, and would copy it down on paper and modify it. then decided how much i was going to sell it for.

but yea, getting a job could be a different story since there is only so many car companies and maybe quite a bit of competition you know?
might want to research it a little more. but if you realllllly want to do it, go ahead. Enjoy life. I need to get a degree i actually want. I am just getting my (business) degree for the money, maybe it might be cool i dont know.

Fiqure out the school name? And since your in oregon it shouldnt be that bad huh? oh yeah. is idaho by oregon? My friend moved there but i kept mixing it up with ohio i think lol.

This is the American school system at its finest

Didn't you ever learn the Fifty Nifty United States song in social studies class? You know, the one where you sing the names of all the states in alphabetical order starting with Alabama and point them out on a blank map as you go...

There are actually quite a few car comps, plus I could probably look at aftermarket comps as well. *And Hot Wheels!!
Idaho is 8 hrs to the west of me, but its right next to Oregon.

Pasadena is about 14-15 hours by car from McMinnville...that is not what I would call 'not bad'. I must respectfully request you look at a map. It would be like you going to school in Chicago or somewhere north west of it.

Re: A fun field to get into

I really wanted to go to the College of Design in Pasadena when I graduated HS back in 93, however at that time tuition was 60K a year and the entry requiements were phenominal.
Sadly I just could not afford it financially, my grades sucked (B- student), and my portfolio was pretty good but not amazing. I ended up going to Community College in Maryland for 2 years & getting my degree in Graphic Design & then transfering to the U of Maryland for additional courses (still have not finished my BS).
Anyway, the caliber of student and faculty is top notch, one of their most famous alumni is Chip Foose.

Sorry for the biography,
If you can get in... GO FOR IT!!!!

Good.....GM needs some fresh thinkers in their design department. Maybe you guys can pull them out of the hole. :-)

Actually its a 12 hr drive, i've done it many times. My family lives probably about an hour away from Pasadena, so its a possibility.
