car is in for warranty work, got a 350z for rental

On the way back home from school (Riverside back to SF, that's where we go dumb dumb dumb dumb, tell me when to GOOOOO!) While i was on the 5, my Mazda3 bottomed out and cracked a mudguard right underneath the engine (a part of the engine was exposed and i was scared shitless because it was 1 in the morning and i was 200miles away from home), has to get that repaired under warranty. While i'm at it, i asked them to perform some TSB work on my car... idles rough, 1-2 automatic launcher, groaning suspension, crappy AC, bad fuel pump. Pretty much half of the TSB list and the majority of mechanical related.

AND THEY GAVE ME A 350Z AS A RENTAL

It's a red 06 350z tour with 5000miles on it. Automatic of course, rental places dont usually have manual cars. This thing is a beast! Although there are a couple things i dont like about this car.

It's excessively heavy for a two-seater/roadster, 3500 pounds compared to 3000 pounds of the rx8, and 2900 pounds of s2k. Although it's heavy, it handles VERY nice, the suspension is very stiff. Also, RWD is nice! Mazda listen to me that RWD is the key when you go above 250hp. (But of course you wont listen)
The engine drives like a tricked out van engine, power delivery is very linear. Some like it because power is always there. I for one, love high revving engines. Willing to sacrifice low-end torque for high-end power.

This is a very nice car, i'm only disappointed because there are better cars out there in the sector. RX8 and S2K. Hell i'll even sacrifice the power and settle down for a MX5. To me, a true sports car should be light on its feet. This thing drives like a tank.

I am not bashing the car, as a matter of fact, coming from 160hp and FWD, the Z scares the shit out of me. Very very nice car, but it's competitors are a bit better in my opinion.

Which dealership gave you that rental? Was it from a rental agency (like Enterprise) or at the dealer themselves? Ill be turning my car in for a couple warranty issues in a couple weeks and I'll be getting a 6 for a day or two.

my roomate has a manual 04 Zcar. the torque scared the shit out of me going from mazda3 and 1.8T - now that i am chipped with TurboBack, i have MORE headsnapping torque(at the wheels, but FWD, boo) than he does (not as linear either) - BUT you get used to it REAL quick

Mazda3s SOLD - Stock Parts available

new ride 1.8T - GTI - a few mods

Lucky guy getting a 350z for a rental,

I disagree with you though, I'd take a 6spd 350z over a s2k or rx-8. Just personal preferance (all 3 are great cars!), and that's a good thing because otherwise everyone would drive the same sports car!

This is completely subjective. I've personally driven all 3. The 350z is a very well designed car. Low end power is what you want, it gives you power off the line, and has a much quicker delivery. The Rx8 is nice and the S2K is a pile of shit. Horribly overpriced. I have driven two and really had my hopes up and were disapointed. Peak horsepower is at like 8300 rpm's and the redline is 9k. Takes way too long to deliver the power and then you dont even get to use it for that long before you have to shift. Not to mention its a honda....

Re: car is in for warranty work, got a 350z for rental

Subjective indeed. Some drivers live between 6000-9000rpm. I wouldnt call s2k a pile of shit though. As much as i hate Honda, i know a nice car when i see one, and s2k is worth every penny in my opinion. Fairlady may have all the power, but it also has all the weight. What i look for in a car is harmony, and the Z drives like all of its mechanical parts are in harmony. This is a well designed car indeed. It's clear that nissan had high power intentions, so they fortified the car to handle such power. But again, i look for agileness and high revving engine. The fact that this car didnt deliever these qualities, doesnt mean it fails as a genuine sports car, it is still good in its own way and this is the perfect car for a ton of people. It still scares the shit out of me.
