Here is some 14th Amendment Info for NEW POLL:

In an effort to deal with illegal immigration, some congressmen are actively discussing the possibility of banning birthright citizenship, also known as "anchor baby provisions," claiming undocumented women have babies on U.S. soil so their children can gain access to this country's services and benefits.

When those children turn 21, they in turn can petition the federal government for citizenship for their parents and siblings.

The 14th Amendment gives citizenship to anybody born within the United States. To change this or any other amendment, there has to be a proposal in Congress or a constitutional convention from two-thirds of the nation's state legislatures. Thirty-eight of 50 states must approve any changes to the constitution.

Re: Immigration Rallies Across Country

It's all about supply and demand. Right now the incentive for people to come over here illegally (i.e. work) is so high that there seems to be a "nothing to lose, everything to gain" mentaility. As long as there are so many emlpoyers willing to break the law by employing illegal immigrants, people wll find a way to get over here and fill those jobs. We can build walls, fences, machine gun towers, etc, but people will find their way in somehow.

The solution IMO is to stop just treating the symptoms, and begin to treat the cause. That means cracking down on employers who provide the jobs. Make them prove that their employees are here legally and impose hefty penalties for employing illegal immigrants. This would encourage people who wish to enter the country for work to do so legally.

After all, the problem people have with the phrase "illegal immigrant" is the illegal part, not the immigrant part.

Re: Immigration Rallies Across Country and POLL

No offense, but I think we need to stop just letting anyone in for any darn reason.* IMO, you can't come here just because you want to live "the american dream", or have a better life.* It may sound bitter, but we need to be more strict on the policy.* This isn't the early 1900's when people immigrated, there is no immigration, it's more like illegal entry into the U.S.

And don't tell me it's great for construction companies and landscaping companies because they can hire these mexicans or whatever nationality to work for them and they get around taxes, red tape, etc. etc.* It's only ruining our economy and increasing crime, drugs, the number of lowlife's in this country, etc.* I know, I'm sounding harsh, but it's the harsh truth!* These rallies and protests across the country are blaming racial, stereotypical, prejudice, and on and on, but it's not that.

We need to stop denying it and shut down the borders.* We need to create a whole new system for getting in.* Something like a 30-day pass, 6-month pass, 1 year pass, etc. for education or something legit like that.* When entering your identification is kept on record and if you don't report or leave when your pass is up, a warrant is put out for your arrest.* Simple?

If you want to come work here, fine. I don't even care if they send the money back home... Just do it legally!

I still maintain that the root of the problem is that there are waaayyy too many people who are willing to give work to illegals. Shut down the shady businesses and all the demand for illegal immigration is gone. That should be a hell of a lot easier than building hundreds of miles of walls and fences and patrolling them 24-7-365.

well, when those kinds of jobs used to pay a decent wage people wanted to do them. The only reason it pays $.50/hr is because there is an illegal willing to do it for that. Legal workers have to at least make minimum wage.

So yeah, they DO take our jobs by being willing to work for far less than the employer would have to pay someone that is legal.

I read an interesting article not too long ago that said a lot of the jobs that immigrants (legal/illegal latino immigrants) have are actually a result of immigration. The availability of incredibly cheap labor encourages people to start businesses like fast food restaurants, golf courses, small construction, etc, because people know they can pay the workers shit and not have labor problems. Many existing jobs are taken by immigrants willing to work for less, but many are actually created specifically for them and are a case of a few enterprising individuals capitalizing on illegal immigration.

If people want to come here, I'm fine with it. Putting up a wall won't stop people, they'll just figure out a way to get around it and put themselves in greater risk than they already are. I don't care that they are taking the jobs they are taking, because I don't want to do those jobs, I'm just happy that someone does them. These people just want to make some money and then go home, or send it home. They aren't here to rob us or spread drugs, that's retarded and stereotypical, they are normal people who want a better life just like everyone else.

Re: Immigration Rallies Across Country and POLL

Just because you want something doesn't mean that you can do it however the hell you want. *The problem is not that they are here working, it's that they are here illegally. *I would be all for loosening up immigration laws and allowing more people to enter the country legally on work visas or whatever, as long as there was a corresponding crackdown on illegal immigration and employers of illegal immigrants. *That way, we can at least keep track of who is here, and collect taxes on the money they earn (and send back home). *Also, this would allow the workers to be granted the same protections that legal/citizen workers are afforded--such as minimum wages and safety regulations, etc.

Agree!
Personally, I think illegal immigrants are exactly that ILLEGAL!
They should apply to get here legally just like millions of others have been doing. There is a process and they should follow it.
If we keep allowing an open border, our southern border is just that, we won't have a UNITED states. We will be speaking spanish and some southwestern states might think about seceeding. I don't see any other country allowing that, so I dont see why we should.
Sure, we are a nation of immigrants, but the uncontrolled and undocumented masses cannot be continued to be allowed in especially in these times of national security problems.
